Back Glass Help 50 Pacemaker (48-49)
My 50 Hudson Pacemaker is scheduled for a new headliner install. The rear window needs to come out as it holds or covers the headliner.
I ordered the backglass rubber from K-Gap #146, but it is on backorder. I see Metro Rubber has some back glass rubber sold by the foot, but I do not know which one is close to the same design.
Anyone know what the cross section of this backglass rubber looks like? There is not a cross section picture in the K-Gap catalog. It is the same for 1948-49 all & only 50 Pacemaker. If I could find something close, maybe it will work till the real thing comes.
Any help appreciated.

Yeah it should be the same '48-'49 & '50 Pacemaker. I think I might have the used rubber but I was wanting to sell the glass with itl. Sometimes if the old rubber is not too bad too dry or cracked you can scrub it down and also recondition it a bit with some silicone....a messy job sure but it does work.0

I finally heard back from K-Gap, they have a couple pieces that if I put together will work until the complete piece comes in from back order. The rubber I have looks newer, but looks like someone glued under the rubber on the inside of car, not sure if it will come out in one piece or if it will need to be cut to get it out.0

A check of the following resources produced:
KGap which uses Metro Rubber products - Part number 146
Full Line (1999-2000 catalog) 48-49-50 rear gasket - Part number -HR905 which is old Metro Part number 219509 (number does not cross in my current metro catalog)
Metro Molded Products: is the gasket to use for 48-50 rearwindows part number LP30P they have a picture of the rubber cross section
Dan Steele has gaskets but does not list 48-50 rear window
BTW...once you install the headliner removing and replacing the window and gasket without damaging the headliner is next to impossible.
Hope this helps...0 -
The upholstery guy said the window needed to be taken out, the headliner installed, & the window put back in. Is that the correct procedure?
I may just call metro & see if they have this in stock & buy one complete piece.
Maybe two pieces would not be that bad, I don't know.0 -

Does the headliner lap over the window opening and hang over on to the outside of the car?
Or does the headliner just go to the inside edge of the window opening?
Thanks, Bob0 -
There should be lots of extra material there. Get it glued and tacked in place and trim it as you go.
You start the headliner just aft of the middle by the way. The bow there snaps in place vertically and you work fore and aft from there, swinging the rear bows forward and up, and the front ones rearward and up. You should also have the windshields out to do a good job.
Make sure you trim the loops so you can pull it tight sidewise before it bottoms out where the bows enter the sides.
Time consuming, but not too hard. Follow the instructions in the body manual.
My original back rubber wasn't too bad so I used it. Supposed to be a 2-man job but did it alone.) The little lip on the outside was too stiff to get the Commodore trim into so I cut it off and stuck the trim on and sealed the glass with 'Seals All' from the hardware store. Goes on white and dries translucent. Also sealed the windshield's with it.0
