I believe the BIG event this weekend in So. Calif. will be the 2 day swap meet & car show in Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego. The CIC & SWB Chapters always heavily attend it + have a dinner party on Sat. night.

(If still lived there would DEFINITELY be there!).

You're dating yourself, Pete. It is now called Qualcomm Stadium and we will be there, rain or shine - big storm predicted for tomorrow. We are scheduled to have the dinner at Machados, up at Montgomery Field at 7PM. Come and join us, bring your umbrellas, it is always a great meet!

Pete: I remember making sure to arrange my "other coast" trips to coincide with SD Swap. One year all the folks were... up the hill in the swap... but the rains washed thier wares through other spots. :( Will miss that comaradaree too... I bet Janet and Bill will be lookin in as usual! :)

Yep, Bill A. & the Kales were always "standard equip." for the BIG swap meet event of the year.

For you who've never attended it but might want to consider it in the future, it's put on by 3 San Diego antique car clubs & they pretty much keep out the hot rod stuff so it's really for those who want & enjoy "old iron". Interestingly enough some times a LOT of antique motorcycles & parts as well.

After Harrah died the biggest & best swap meet in the West ended - we used to have all the Regional meets in conjunction with Harrah's Swap Meet in Reno. I remember running into Carl Horton (at one time a major Hudson collector from Indianapolis) there & said to him "what the hell are you doing here"? and he told a whole PLANE load of car collectors had flown out for Indiana!!!!!!

Oh well, that was "the good old days" ~~~~~~

Yeah, and Garland Fincher rode his scooter all the way to Reno to attend the Great Western Meet .

Our SD group fell apart this year because of illness to one of our regulars(it is hard to get old). I remember a few years back that we flew down and picked up two stepdowns that were on display at the Petersen place. We hit the swap (almost bought a car on the spur of the moment--it was love at first sight.) We had dinner with the So Cal group Saturday Night. We headed out the next day in the 51 and 52 driving back home. Spent a night in Las Vegas--had a Cheeseburger in Paradise-- got up the next morning to 5 degree weather and drove home. Great weekend. I was so tired from all that walking that I had to take a day off work to get back to normal....

they had a lot of rain yesterday in So. Calif., wonder how the Meet went (perhaps we'll get a report)? That storm now here in Phoenix, been raining since last night.

A little rain never dampens the spirit of Hudson folk. We had a good turn out for the Big 3, from the CA Inland Chapter and SW Borders. WE only had 3 Hudsons on display and we spent a lot of time under our EZ ups, but between downpours some good parts trading took place. About 16 folks made it up to the Mexican restaurant for the dinner. I think that there were about 25 Hudson club folks at the swap meet. I only went on Saturday, but our booths were set up Friday - Sunday!
  • Richard...Thanks for the post meet report.

    R. E. - hope it was just the weather as used to get 40 - 50 at the Sat. night soiree!?!??!

    Pete,

The dinner has been pretty much of a bust the last 3 or 4 years. Bill A. had pronouced the Mexican restaurant as "unclean" due to either his seeing a rat or a cockroach?? So we tried some other venues and parking was always a problem. Everyone else thought that the Mexican place was fine, service, good food, I never saw a rat or cockroach so we went back there. Hey, even Jason came! I think that a lot of folks just don't want to venture away from the swap meet. So next year Charlie is going to throw a BBQ on Friday night at his swap space, maybe that can be the new tradition??

    Hey Richard,

Sunday morning at the swapmeet, Charlie, Buz, Kay, Sherry, Dave, myself and a few others voted on having a cookout type dinner in the Hudson swapment spaces Saturday night in place of going to a restaurant. I think that will be replacing the Friday night cookout. Heck! Maybe we should do both nights... I know that you could not be there Sunday morning and will get the word, but I wanted others on the forum know about the decision.

I think doing a cookout on Saturday night would be great! The dinner at the restaurant has really died out. I would rather stay at the swap meet. Sorry I didn't get back down on Sunday, Buzz said that it was packed and lots of good trading.
  • Were there any Hudson parts from non-HET members of just trading amongst yourselves?

Actually there were. Perry Spring always seems to find the most Hudson parts from the field. He has some sort of built in radar that the rest of us lack! A guy came by with a '37H banjo steering, including horn button, that he paid $20 for. He planned to put it on a '38 Chevy. We wrestled him to the ground but we couldn't get the steering wheel. There was other stuff, Hudson, in the field. The problem on Saturday was that everyone still had their stuff covered up! Sunday was the best day, but I wasn't there!!!!

I heard that Dany (Kgap) made a great buy from you Richard E. He was real Happy! I am all for a cookout on Saturday night. Wasn't able to go to the Dinner, had to put pots and plastic inside of the motor home. The rain came down outside and a little inside. . VicTor Z

    Hi Niels,

How was the Classic car swap meet in El Segundo? I was not able to go to it or the one in San Diego.

    Victor,

Perry is good at finding parts at a good price. He got me a part I needed for my 47 PU, at the nationals for less than 1/2 the price the seller would sell it to me. Thanks Perry.

    Lee
  • Hi Lee,

The El Segundo deal was very small and was predominately Packard stuff. I wasn't expecting much but it was close and I got to see all the cars in the museum again.

Vic, I was happy with what I sold on Saturday. It is all going back into the resto of my '50C6, which I need to finish by the end of April as it is scheduled to pull our '58 DeVille "canned ham" trailer to a ralley in Pismo Beach in May. It seems to get father apart rather than back together. I do have the engine finished, I'm putting in the Pridemore disc brakes and the PS off of my '54. The interior is finished with the beautiful material that Bill Albright sold me in the fall. I am begining to see the light at the end of the tunnel!!

Side note about El Segundo - if you find a '55 Hudson with a serial number that begins in WC (Wasp 6), XC (Hornet 6) or YC (Hornet V-8) - these were all built at an AMC (or Nash) plant in El Segundo. Only year for it that we've found.
