A Bump in the Road

I find myself in the unenviable position of being part of an IBM resource action (layoffs) so; I am seeking a new job and the Hudson is on hold. I have a BS in Computer Science and a Masters in Business in addition to nearly a decade of work experience ranging from technical consulting, education, program management, and relationship management. You can learn more details about me here www.MichaelJSandberg.info

If you are aware of any opportunities, please let me know.

Good luck, Michael. Being laid off sucks big time. Be sure to seek the counsel of other folks in your field and do lots of networking - it works! In the meantime, working on the Hudson is good therapy - it will keep you from obsessing about work.
  • Micheal... hang in there. There is a need for folks who have your skill set. I would suggest you take a look at the techical recruiting going on with the USG at this time. USA Jobs dot com should get you started. GOOD LUCK.

Thanks, I am doing what I can. Unfortunately, there is not much to be done on the Hudson that does not cost money.

That is a new one to me, thanks.

    Michael,

Good luck with the search. I was laid off in October from working in aerospace. Good experience, education and 45 years time served. Aerospace is tough place to find work with our president cutting the mission of NASA. Slim Pickings at best.... I have been forced into retirement and must admit that I am lucky--it is the best thing in the world for me. Being an old guy, I am taking advantage of all the extra time and spending it in my shop.
  • Michael,

I went through this process in 1992. You have a great education and fine experience. I only had an Associate of Applied Science degree and 12 years experience. It didn't count for much at the time.

Found a job 250 miles away from where I lived, packed up and moved.

I have only two things to offer. Plan something associated with the search for employment into your five typical work days. To keep yourself working (finding a new job is work) keeps your mind focused and away from thoughts you don't need.

Don't let anyone tell you not to take a particular approach you might want to try. I was told not to do two certain things by others. My two job offers were a result of doing what I was told not to do.

I hope for the best for you.

  • I got a new puppy and work on the dual outlet exhaust manifold adapters and exercise daily. When I'm not busy, I volunteer(4 areas).

Good luck, and stay busy. Visit others, and take plant tours, check libraries for new sources of info. Bob

If you're in IT there's staffing firms specifically out there that match people like you with companies
  • Heard on the news today that Open Text is hiring 350. Don't know the kind of jobs, etc, but Open Text is IT, a competitor to Microsoft. When I heard the news item I thought of you.

It's in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. You're in Minnesota. Not much of a change temperature-wise. Land of high taxes and almost free health care. Expensive gas though.

Thought I would throw the info your way. Good luck.
