From time to time there is a vendor who advertises on ebay, but I have no idea if it is better. I bought my trunk weatherstrip on ebay and seems to be fine as far as fit and compression are concerned. And there's always JCWhitney which has generic weatherstrips.0 -
Try Gateway Universal Repro in Winfield Mo...636-288-6969. Order part number 5036. This has a stick back peel that works really well. Have used it on the past 2 converts and i am happy with it. Sticks well...make sure you use grease and dirt remover to clean the surface before applying.

Russ,
Is this P/N for the weatherstrip on the sides/top of the doors, or the bottom strip?
Thanks,

I used it for all above. Kgaps weather seal is not soft enough, causes the the door to "jump open" and is harder to close especially on the convertible stuff. I talked to Al Saffrahn about this problem a couple of years ago and he switch to this stuff and he heard about it from Chris Davis who does alot of Hudson restoration work.

Gateway Universal Repro is no longer in business. I obtained mine from Old Dog Street Rods. Ph: 866-291-1940. Part # 5036 ST.0

Does this door weather seal work also on the 54 Hornet Hollywood

yes it will0

Thanks Russ Maas I was wondering because on the 54 body style the door weather seal was glued opposite from the 48-53 Ray:D0

Just a little more detail to this thread.
P/N 5036 Weather Strip is made by Soffseal
You can buy factory direct here for the best price I was able to find;

I don't know if the photo in the link is correct, but the weatherstrip pictured is not the same weatherstrip in reference to the previous posts. There should be no clips and the rubber has a hollow channel. It is also a peel and stick. This is signified by the "ST" suffix of the part number.0 -
super-six,
You're right. That is NOT a Soffseal P/N. So I called Old Dog Street Rods, and wouldn't you know it.....they're out of stock of P/N 5036-ST. He said that's not a Soffseal part, but wouldn't tell me where he gets it. He also said he had no idea when he'd have more.
So, I guess I'm right back where I started...trying to order some from SOMEwhere.....
Any other leads out there?
Does anyone have any dimensions or pictures of this elusive weatherstrip?0 -
Okay, I think I figured it out. I believe P/N 5036-ST is made by 3M
Is this the profile and dimensions of the stuff others have received?
If you take a cross section of it, it looks like the 'D' shape is 11/16" wide and 1/2" tall, and it has an extra 'flap' of material that's slightly offcenter.
If so, McMaster Carr has it here;0 -

Mine looks to be that dimension, although it's hard to get an exact measurement.0 -

Just to give my final update on this one. The product sold by McMaster Carr is not made by 3M. It is made from EPDM material, which is right, but the adhesive back is just simple acrylic based. So, I went with a company up in Canada that sells the 3M product using a hi-strength 3M adhesive tape on the back. Probably one of their 'VHB' (very high bond) tapes, which is really good stuff. Of course it costs about twice what the McMaster Carr weatherstrip does, but you get what you pay for. The name of the place is Pomar Hardware, and I got 100' (probably enough for at least two sedans) for $1.56/foot. Here's the link;
http://www.pomarhardware.com/pdf%20files/RUBBER_Pg2-3_Seals_Gaskets.pdf
Scroll down to Page 3, and you'll see the 5036 profile on the left side.0 -
Okay, one last final update. The hardware store listed above really only wanted to sell me 100 feet, and I only needed 40 feet to do my '49 sedan, so I ended up getting some from McMaster Carr (their P/N 93085K89) (shown above). It came on a spool with 'Trim Lok' logos and part number (X5036H)
Turns out it does have a really good quality tape on the back, so it really seems to stick well. I used it both on the body door openings and along the bottom of the doors. Overall very happy with the product on my stepdown. Piece of cake to apply, too.0 -
i finnally located some of the X-5036-BT weather stripping for around the doors of my super wasp. is there any particular way this should be installed?(which way to to point the protrudment) does anyone here have a picture of such installation?
any help appreciated thanks steve0
