heat damper 37 terraplane

How does the heat damper remove from the exhaust manifold? I think the damper might be stuck in the closed position. I am experiencing hot start problems, plus the carburetor needs overhauled. I live in Arizona and don't need to worry about cold weather operation.

Thanks,

What did I hear about the latest rust buster...a mix of tranny fluid and acetone I believe. You'll probably need the torch also. Tet it to move or take it out entirely and put a couple of bolts and nuts in the holes.

I believe that there are two bolts holding a football shaped plate to one side of the exhaust manifold; when you pull that out, the whole flapper comes out. However, it should be easy to determine if it's stuck, because the shaft comes out of the manifold on one side, where the thermostatic spring hooks up to it. If you can't turn it, then it's stuck. I guess you could just remove the flapper and shaft when you remove the plate, then replace the plate and plug the holes (for the shaft) on each side, with something like a bolt.

Be very careful removing the two bolts that hold the football shaped flange, as over the years they tend to freeze and you may snap them off, good dose of WD 40 is a must before you start.
