35 Terraplane conv. frame,and question

Hello, I just removed the body from the frame for its restoration, and here are a few pictures of what was found. The previous owner cut it to it in a section to put a master under the floor, but fortunately it isn't going to be that bad of a repair once it is removed. The frame otherwise appears to be in pretty good shape. The question is the rear,is it correct looking for the year and was there a type of torsion bar attached to it.The bar in one of the pictures on the ground looks to have been welded in the middle which makes it look suspect to me.The front axel and frame have the identification numbers that match, but no numbers are on the rear. This car i I would like to make all origonal so the brakes pictured will be going back to mechanical..Thank you,Sean...( the vehicle numbers were found so far only stamped on the passenger side upper frame above the rear portion of the leaf spring, and on the passenger side front axel..No numbers have been found so far on the rear portion of the frame as someone asked before)

hello sean, again, best of luck on your restoration. my dream car..any way, i have a '35 sedan deluxe that i have had for 10 years. i have never seen a '35 with a torsion bar of any kind.

the cross member just aft of your engine mounts is unfamiliar to me as well.

if you are interested i believe i just saw a classified for a complete '35 chassis. i think the guy who was selling this complete chassis was in illinois. i cannot remember if i saw it in the latest hemmings....or some where else. it was within the last week i read the ad.

    regards, tom
  • Yes the cross memeber aft of the engine is not correct,I believe it is a ford mount of some kind.It has to be removed also. The person I picked the car up from said at one time his father had put another engine in it,unfortunately by doing so he also cut a portion of the firewall to make it fit...The rear is my main concern though. This car is in Florida and has not been in Hemmings....Thanks for your info, Sean (another picture of the car afetr it came off the frame)
  • The torsion bar is incorrect but appears to the correct rear.It looks as if someone welded it to the rear..Thanks

It looks to me like someone has transplanted '36 front and rear ends in the car.
  • Front axel numbers match the frame, but rear has no numbers, but looks like the bar was welded on the rear...

35 were cable brakes and this has hydraulics, so has to be 36 on up parts. Walt
  • The cable system is still mostly there,it can be seen somewhat in the pictures. The hubs have to be changed back, because the hydrolic system in there is not origonal..

46-47 cars had panhard bars(don't know about the trucks). I thought the 46-47 rear was a straight swap for this application. Does the panhard bracket that is attached to the axle look like it was welded on by a shade tree mechanic or does it look like a factory weld?

Perhaps a 46-47 owner can tell us if the VIN is stamped on the rear of their car/truck and what the distance is from backing plate to backing plate. It's 54" on my 39.

Hey Tom sorry I read through your posting a little quick,I will try to find his add, might be a good doner..What was funny though is that this car origonated in Chicago, from what I have found out so far,and it had a bunch of old Illinois plates inside when I first started cleaning it out...Sorry for the mis-read, Sean
