352 Packard Starter Solenoid Question?!?!??!?!

I have a Packard 352 in mine and have never had a problem with the solenoid. The engine is really shoehorned in. An energering marvel! I think you have to put the car up on a rack to get to it. Don't lay on your back underneath it and try to get to it or you will end up at the chiropratic office! The 1957 is difficult also, and it has a smaller engine. Glen Malme wrote a technical article on this years ago, and his solution was to move the solenoid to the firewall where it is easy to get to.0

Can you send me a link as to where I can find this article? Because I'm just trying to remove the entire starter and it's not budgin'0

I'm not familiar with Hash or Stud Packard engine applications. On the 55 and 56 Packards the starter is held to the LOWER bellhousing half with 2 bolts. Remove the bolts and slide the starter out. Then disconnect the solenoid wires.
If your starter is stubborn then maybe it is rusted into the bellhousing bore. It is a somewhat tite fit anyway and has to be to keep good bendix alignment.
Also look to see if there is a support bracket at the front of the starter. Packard does not use one but maybe HASH/Study did.
If all else fails then u can remove the lower bellhousing half with starter in place MAYBE. I've never tried it that way.
At this point i believe your only problem is that the starter is rusted into the pilot bore of the bellhousing. U'll just have to get alittle rough with it.0 -
it's not easy to get off but it does come off i've done a few over the years as for moving the solenoid to the fire wall will not work because it pulls in the starter bendex0
