Looks like a sweet ride. What doesn't make sense is that he wants to sell this to BEGIN work on a Hornet. Yah, Hornets are cool, but this seems so close to being done ....

Unless the reserve is astronomical, it looks like it's worth checking out.

Isn't it the same steering wheel that is on the 46 and 47 cars?

OK, I'll bite- what is it?

My coupe has a steering wheel from a '51 Ford Crestliner- generates quite a bit of interest with the old timey rodders. One guy told me to find the Hudson steering wheel that I want, he would buy it for me, and give me $300 to boot. It is kind of zooty looking (although not in mint condition)- wish I could post pics.:(

I'm probably wrong but it looks like it's from a '40-'41 maybe. And the car is very uhhhh blue.

It is basically an ivory version of the 41 commodore wheel and center (which was black). They were used in the early 48 commodores (optional for supers) before the more typical 48-49 commodore wheel was introduced.
Most cars i've seen with them have actually been on 49 supers. I've wondered if the factory made an abrupt switch to the new wheel as soon as it was available and used remaining stock of the initial wheel to supply dealers for upgrading supers. By the way, because of this, there are two different horn rings which are not interchangable for 48-49
  • Good guess guys but this one is in a class all by itself. The origional planned steering wheel was supposed to resemble the 46-7 wheel but modified somewhat for the new series of stepdown cars Hudson was building. For some reason , a decision was made to make two different steering wheels first for the Commodore line and secondly for the Super line. The steering wheel that is pictured in the ad actually only got produced in very small numbers before the plug was pulled on production( cost, difficulty in producing ,who knows) . If you notice the intent was to use these wheels to the extent that if you look at the 48-9 owners manual ,there is an interior shot with one (pgs 17 & 20). Few of these were produced let alone survive.

It looks like the one pictured in the 48 owners manual. Kind of a continuance of the 46-47 Commodore..I don't recall ever seeing one . Just pictures

Rick, yours is the 46-47 commodore (optional for super) wheel. the early 48 is a similar concept. the 48 and 41 have a tall narrow red triangle and has hudson written across. the 48 is ivory whereas the 41 is black.
