Parts Interchangeability?

In another thread, "'39 112 Parts needed", there was a mention of parts interchangeability, in particular some parts that fit a 39 112 also fit a '38, etc.
Is it my imagination, or do I remember a Manual put out by Hudson that covered all Hudson parts that listed their use in multiple models, years, etc., basically a "Parts Interchangeability Manual"? If so, I sure would like to get my hands on a book like that. Is this just a raving fantasy of mine, or does an animal really exist?
. . . didn't want to hi-jack the other thread.

There is such a book. I bought my on Ebay. Below is the link. It's a little tricky to use at first. It lists Hudson part numbers and the years the part is suitable for. I also bought a 1930-1939 Master Chassis part book from the same folks.

'38 and '39 H112 parts (mechanical) are all interchangeable, except for the transmisison gear change. Body parts are different around the front and hood.0

Russell, You are indeed correct. There does exist a parts interchange manual. I have an origional copy. Unfortunately there is a problem..... Hudson posts part numbers in cronological order without regard to application . In other words, if you need to know if a tail lens from a 35 Hudson will work on a 36 Hudson you won't be able to tell. If you have the part number of a 35 Hudson tail lens THEN you lookup the part number and it will tell you what it crosses with. In other words without the part number it is very difficult to lookup the information on interchanges. The reality is that it was for the guy at the parts counter not for someone who wanted something like a Hollander manual.0 -
I'd love to get my hands on one of those 1927-1950 interchange books to put in the on-line library.
Trouble is $49 is a little steep for a manual I'd have to take apart to scan so I need one that's coming apart and won't matter if it's taken apart. (hint hint hint).
On the plus side I have someone who is scanning both 1930-1939 chassis and body parts manuals for me and will, sometime in the near future, be sending me copies on CD. Those will go in the library (I already have the Chassis book that was done by somebody else and that is in the on-line library).

I got a pristine copy of it along with 10 other Hudson manuals (Also near perfect)that the library was getting rid of paid $10 for the lot. Lady said we don't get much call for those. She could not tell by my ear to ear grin how happy I was to hear that. Picked up a swack of older Chilton and Motors repair manuals. Shook my head but was giddy with excitement. The things you find in the least likely places.
Remember folks fill your library before you fill your garage.0 -
I always go to the libraries garage sale as they call it and we also have a huge book flee market I have found a lot of older manuals there. With all the books and manuals I got from my dads shop I have run out of shelf space they are in big plastic tupperware until I get more cases. Have two full book cases of Hudson stuff and more in tupperware.0

Master Body Parts Book is 310 pages
Master Chassis Parts Book is 501 pages
Numerical Price list doesn't have page numbers but covers more than 30,000 replacement parts from 1927 to 1939 (It lists year and model for most parts including Dover).
Alex, if you are interested in scanning the Numerical Price List, let me know as the cover and binding are long gone. All you would have to do is put it an a binder after you are finished.

Well, that's cool, albeit a little of a let-down. I was really hoping for something more along the lines of the Hollander manual, although this would still be a plus to have. The way you describe it, a complete set of Parts manuals, with Part #'s to go with it, is what would be needed to make real positive use of the Interchange Manual. Even better, for the neophyte would be a picture-parts Manual, to help identify a given part, but I'm SURE I'm whistilin' Dixie with that one.0 -
While it is true that todays Hudson people might need the parts books to use this parts interchange book, it still has value in that if you have a part number and don't know what it is, then you can find out in this book.
Sort of like flat rate manuals. Most people have no idea of the value of those. Lets just say you have your beautiful Hudson product ready for that big meet coming up. 48 hours before the meet something breaks. Question is can it be fixed in time. Flat rate manual will give you an idea - taking into consideration (1) that you aren't a mechanic in a Hudson shop and (2) probably don't have any special tools needed. But the flat rate manual will separate possible from impossible and at least give you the kick needed to try to fix the old girl.
At one time I had a lot of parts manuals from around 1936 up into the 1950's. Unfortunately I had to sell the lot.
I still cry about that a lot.0
