Hudson comments

Today I drove my Hudson to work. I got more comments than usual for one day... (Not a Hornet BTW :) )

Guy on the sidewalk while waiting at a light "What year is the Hornet?"

Co-worker - "Wow, is that the racing model?"

Another co-worker "Forgot you had the Hudson."

Another co-worker "If you drive to lunch I'm riding with you."

Truck full of landscapers - Thumbs up and "What Year?"

Another guy on the sidewalk "What Year?"

Older couple at grocery store "Nice Hudson, those are rare. My Uncle had a ..."

20 ish year kid old in a decked out Outback - Thumbs up and " Sweet Hornet, don't see many of those!"

Guy on a Harley - Many thumbs up and nods of approval over a 10 mile side by side commute

My favorite of the day ****

5 year old girl on my soccer team "Did you get that car at the dump?"

When leaving soccer practice with my daughters and their friend, I said " We better hurry, I have to get the car back to the dump before they close." To which my 4 year old daughter replied " Oh, so you really did get it from the dump!"

On the plus side, not one "Mercury ..." or "Who made Hudson, GM or Ford?" lol

Happy April Fools day I guess :)

Matt, that is cool stuff, you really can't hurry anywhere if you are driving a Hudson. I have to talk to people every time I come out of a store or at a gas station. I enjoy all the conversations about the Hudsons. I'm sure you do too. Richie.

Leave it to a 5-year-old to bring us Hudsonuts back to reality, LOL!

My now 11 year old was 6 when I got my Hudson. At the time, she said something along the lines of " When you die, this car is just going to go the junkyard." in a matter of fact way.

She loves the car now, and I remind here that it's not going to her in my will...

I guess the attitude of a 5 year old sums up todays philosophy - Throw it away, get a new one. :(

    You gotta love 'em.

When my '54 was being dragged to MA everyone at every stop (except one gentleman) would say "cool Merc."

My '48 coupe is an "old skool" custom- no Hudson emblems on it, has a Lincoln back bumper (to accomodate the continental kit) and Cadillac "sombrero" hubcaps. One time when I was gassing up, two old guys were arguing whether it was a Lincoln or a Caddy.
  • My '37 Terraplane and various comments it has had:

"Cool! You don't see many '38 Fords around any more!" My reply was "Yeah, I know, do you see one somewhere?"

(Guy gesturing to the '37): "You've got such a cool Chevy there! What year is your car?" I said "1954."

    "Who built Terraplanes?" Me: "Hudson."

"Who built Hudsons?" Me: "People on an assembly line."

"Is that a factory color? Me: "Yes, it is."

"What do they call that color?" Me: "Green."

Everybody at work knows what my Terraplane looks like, but I've yet to drive it to work. Soon, though...soon.

I'm a "Here's your sign!" kind of guy!
  • Coincidently, a comment today... I took a newly acquired 52 Hornet sedan to get front shocks put on. The mechanic said "kinda looks like a Merc". I said "yes, but lower and much faster".

    Rick,

Your post reminded me of the gentleman I met at a cruise last year. He had a Essex rod, and I had my Hudson there. He informed that Hudson brought about the demise of Essex in a corporate buyout. Until Hudson bought them out, Essex made really nice cars. They went downhill after the buyout, and finally Hudson shut them down :)

I made a polite attempt to inform him otherwise, but he was not too keen to hear it.

The late Jim Fortin took his Jet to a cruise night one time. Somebody walked up to Jim and asked if it was an English Ford.

Jim, being Jim, never took the Jet to another brand-x meet. :D
