    Here ya' go:

Thanks, should be able to follow it. Appreciate your help. Thanks, Bob
  • Anytime. Mopar Performance makes a harness for this kind of conversion with the correct connector for the distributor and ignition module, so you only have to hook up 3 wires to the car:

    1) $00.00 Donor shaft w/ advance weights and springs from Hudson distributor

    2) $43.99 Mopar reman distributor 30-3690 (Advance auto parts)

    3) $24.99 Mopar ignition module CBE14Z (Advance auto parts)

    4) $ 6.19 Distributor cap C190Z (Advance auto parts)

    5) $ 4.19 Distributor rotor D147Z (Advance auto parts)

    6) $19.95 Mopar ignition harness P3690152 (Summit racing)

    7) $ 8.99 Dual ballast resistor C1102 (Advance auto parts)

    $108.30 TOTAL

Bob, The reluctor wheel and pick up come with the reman distributor. You don't need to purchase them seperately.

What are your thoughts on using a Hudson distributor to put these parts in??

    Thanks, Bob

Off topic, but I don't think I noticed you have a guage and some sending unit(s) attached to the oil filter bypass. Just wondering what your reasoning is? It appears to me that only the pressure that would be avilable to the oil filter would register. At Low RPM, no pressure would register.. Am i wrong? Inquireing minds need to know LOL..

So as to not muddy a great ignition thread I'll refer back to this thread on

I don't know, Bob. Probably doable if you could mount the pick up on the Hudson breaker plate.

    Dave-

What about the vacuum advance? Did it come with your distributor? I'm sure I'm most likely correct in assuming it is different than a Hudson Vacuum Advance?

Reason I bring this up, is that the HUDSON VA is no longer available is quite a job to retro fit one. This Chrysler distributor may be a very good alternative for future Hudnuts, as good used parts become more and more scarce.
  • If all you are worried about is the points. Replace them with a pertronix system. You just bolt a sensor in your current distributor. And change the points cam to a sensor wheel. They supply the wheel. You use the existing wiring. No franken mess. Then you are set. Electronic ignition. No more points. They even sell a 6v unit if you have not converted. Go to their web site and give them a call. They are good to work with and have been making these conversions for many years.

Yes, the vacuum advance comes w/ the Chrysler distributor. Exactly why I converted to this set-up. My original vacuum advance didn't hold vacuum and I bought a NOS one for the Hudson distributor and that started leaking as well. Now any ignition parts that may fail can be purchased at any parts retailer, and are usually in stock.
  • Will the vacuum advance and mechanical advance for the mopar distributor advance the same as the Hudson distributor? Do you have any problem with ignition ping when you install the mopar distributor at the stock ignition timing?

The vacuum advance linkage works the same, and the mechanical advance uses the same counterweights, etc. from the Hudson distributor, so that is also the same.

I've put on about 25K miles with this setup and haven't experienced a bit of pinging. That's even with my timing advanced a few degrees, which I believe is the recommended setting when using today's gasoline.
  • Yup. what Hudsonguy said. You use the advance weights and springs from the Hudson so that remains unchanged. I beleive the vacuum advance from the Mopar unit does advance a little more than the Hudson one, but I have not experienced any pinging and I have a 232 head on mine.
