When is it time to replace shocks?

I will have soon have my wheels off for a brake job and will be replacing the Sway Bar bushings. This has left me wondering if it is time to replace the shocks too. How do I know when/if new shocks will improve the ride?

Kanter has GAS-CHARGED SHOCKS listed for my 52 Hornet. $185 for a full set. Has anyone here used the Kanter shocks?

Walt here; I have used 2 sets from them in 11 years and 130,000 miles. Never had a problem with them.

If the car does not continue to bounce after taking a bump, I would leave them alone. Manually rock the end that you're checking and if the car continues to rock after you stop, I would replace them.

    Hey Michael,

You can get cross reference numbers here on the forum for shocks that you can get from NAPA at quite a bit of savings. Nothing wrong with Kanters stuff just seems a bit pricey for my taste.

    Good Luck!
