Havent had my 49 Super Six but about a month. While checking the wiring and other stuff under the hood, I found a voltage regulator mounted on the firewall. The wires go into the loom across the firewall to the other side or peal off and two wires loomed together are tied off and dont go anywhere.

The previous owner didnt know if the car had overdrive before, and there is no overdrive on there now.

The box says on the data plate "Hudson"

"Full Voltage Regulator"

"Model 6 Volts Serial"

"VRR4001A 11C016054"

"Made in the USA"

"By the Electric Auto Lite Co"

"Toledo, Ohio"

Box outter is 2 1/2 in wide, by 2 1/4 in tall.

Any body know what it controls? I have identified the horn relay, lot smaller and mounted higher on the firewall. Thanks, appreciate the help. Bob

  • Bob, The "T" terminal has a green wire going to the generator charge gauge on the dash. The "A" terminal goes to the "A" armature lug on the generator. "B" terminal has 3 wires. One goes the the starter solenoid on the negative side. (that lug has a wire going to the neg side of the battery). The next wire goes to the circuit breaker. The next wire goes to the horn terminal. The lone wire on the "F" terminal goes to the 'field' lug on the generator. The voltage regulator you have for your car is correct for that year.
