Stepdown Trailer Hitch ideas?

I'm thinking about buying a vintage teardrop trailer to tow behind one of my stepdowns. A couple years ago, I remember seeing a Hudson accessory trailer hitch (in box) being sold. Anyone have something like this that they want to part with? Any suggestions on set up? I don't want to cut up or weld anything on my cars. Thanks

  • Should there be metal strong enough to attach safety chains/hooks from the trailer to the Hudson? I had a trailer come loose on a bumpy road a couple of years ago. I would put some strong metal on it. Bob

Cody Stiner has a trailer on his stepdown and he drove it to the National last year. He also had it to the Skunk Wagon Meet last weekend. He lives in Miles City, Montana and is in the directory. Drop him a line.

Upon seeing your posts Glen Johnson (here in Utah) called me and told me he had two trailer hitches (they are for sale) for stepdowns. One is a clone of the trailer hitch that Hudson offered way back when. Not knowing that Hudson had a trailer hitch for stepdowns I thought it worth a drive up to see them. The first photo (with the two attach bars-longest bar is aprox 24 inches) is an exact copy of what Hudson offered. The second one is one that Glen had.

The first photo looks to me to be a copy of an original "Draw-Tite" hitch that was sold to Hudson Dealers by the Draw-Tite Hitch Co.. Being in a major rural area, my Dad's dealership installed many, many of these on Step- Downs over the years. In fact, the '51 Commodore Six I have that Dad sold to my Grandfather new has one of these Draw-Tite hitches on it still.
  • Thanks Brownie.... I'll send Glen an e-mail.
