Spart Plug Gap (Champion H10s)
Today I took the time to set my spark plug gap to .040. After some research it seemed to be a consensus for those running the Pertronix Ignitor and Flamethrower. I was extremely surprised to find that the spark plugs (Champion H10s) were not even close to uniform in their default gap. According to my gap tool, they ranged from .025 to .040 right out of the box. I set them all to .040, put them back in, started the car, and it runs. I am not sure if I will notice a difference, but I am sure every little bit helps.

Spark plugs are not gapped to any specification from the factory, because the same plug # can have multiple applications. It is up to the installer to gap them.0 -

I learned something new, I had always thought they were manufactured with the most common gap as default. Now I know0 -
What number plug are you guys useing ngk's useing ? I see 2 choices that are supposed to fit---B-6L and B-4L0

You are right, but try working behind the parts counter when more likely than not the "custormer' wants the plugs that are already gapped. When I try to explain it to them I get a blank stare. I have even been known to say if you are able to install the plugs you should have enough knowledge to gap the plugs, and that was one of the first thing I knew how to do (at the age of 16). Some of the new platinum plugs do come pre gapped but always advisble to check them. Oh, I worked for Advance Auto Parts. Formerly a mechanic for 45 years.
