I found a couple parts cars locally I wanted to purchase. The owners daughter said she would sell them to me for book value in #5 condition. Anyone have a "book" that would list the value. One is a 51 Hornet sedan, the other is a 52 Hornet sedan w/twin-h. I am not sure what book she would be looking in, so let's hear what everyone thinks is a fair price.

check out www.collectorcarmarket.com they have hudson with 1-5 rating scale broke down. Hornet Sedans are listed as $1000 each as a #5
  • They are worth whatever the amount that you and the seller agree to.

This is the answer to ALL "what's it worth?" questions.

Besides, the question is pretty useless without pictures and a great deal more info.

There are a lot of folks placing prices on old cars such a Blue Book, Meguires, Hemmings, Fred down the street and on and on. Old Cars Price Guide is what I consider the standard in establishing a discussion base for a price value for a car. Often I will carry mine with me and when someone asks what their car is worth I pop it out. I first show them the "How to use the Price Guide page" and then go from there. For a 1952 it places the value at: $750 for the 4-doors with a bit less for a Wasp and a bit more for Hornet and Commodre. A convertible jumps up to $1920 on down to $1600 for the Wasp. It lists all the Hudson and models as a different line item. OCPG has 5 classes that would be considered restorable then a 6th class for a parts car. This is how they define a parts car: May or may not be running, but is weathered, wrecked, and/or stripped to the point of being useful primarily for parts.

You can get into a lot of discussion on what are parts worth. Last twin-H set up I saw for sale was $1500 at a local swap meet. In the final analysis a part or parts car is worth what you are willing to pay.

It is worth is actual weight. At this time in Illinois is about $170 at ton. So about $400 for a number 5 car is about right at this time.

Got a call form a fellow at the scrap yard that tought I be interested in some mid 40's Chryslers. He told me he want $425 for each car complete and that they were to nice to scrap. He states he would get $400 for the metal per car and that was yesterday

I did not buy them. I'm not in a chrysler collector. But i would say it hold true on what a #5 would go for now.

Sure if a parts car had a decent engine with Twin H, that by itself would be worth $400 to me, good front drums another $50, spicer rear-end $100 bucks...but when you buy the parts car you buy the whole package and that means you subtract your labor that it takes to remove such items from the car. I taken many cars apart...its not fun. But that what doing cars is all about.
