Im looking for an oil pump gear. The one i have on the car is a bronze gear that is chewed up a bit and i was going to replace it.

Is there a kit out there to rebuild the pump that comes with gaskets and a gear? If so can you please post a link.

Also i heard there were 2 different types bronze and steel? whats best or what are my options.

Ive never rebuilt one before, any advice?

Thanks

    OK thanks

has anyone else had any experience replacing an oil pump gear?
  • Get your gear from Russ. Don't try using the steel gear as this was the gear that chewed up the camshaft gear. In about 1950 Hudson replaced the steel gear that they had used in the 262 with a bronze gear that would be the sacrifice gear instead of the camshaft gear. The gear itself is a press fit gear with a pin in the shank that goes through the pump shaft. Shouldn't be a big deal to either remove or replace. The pump itself should be cleaned out and checked for wear. Generally they survive pretty well. Oil pump gaskets are still available from gasket suppliers or yopu could cut one yourself.
