Anybody know what these are?

Sorry for what must seem a silly question:

I have a 47 4 door Super Six. Inside the rear quarter glass (the small glass behind the door) there is what seems to be a latch. It moves up and side to side a half inch or so -- as if it is on a spring. The inside chrome is recessed just a bit on both sides, as if to accomodate the latch/knob sliding back four inches (which it doesn't do).

It can't be to open the closed window and I can't seem to see any use for it .. but both sides have the knob/latch and both sides function exactly the same. And I don't want to force it to bend or move in a way that it's not supposed to.

Anyone have a 40's Hud and can tell me what these are?

(By the way, the S6 is running great! Freed up the valves and played with it a bit, and it's purring. Ahhhhh! ~ knock on wood)

  • The knobs are to open and close the window. These windows only open a small amount and most I have run across are stuck. You will probably need to remove the interior window trim and possibly the trim panel below the window to gain access to the mechanism in order to free them up. Will also probably have to replace all of the window welting.
  • That's what it looked like, but the windows don't open. Your explanation tells me why. Thanks :)

Happy, happy. Both rear quarter windows open smoothly and efficiently. Thanks for the tip.
