I wish there were more Utes in the U.S., what a great looking utility. Very nice color combination!

really cute, looks like it has a "sun roof" too, LOL!

Be nice to see pics of the rear of it too.
  • Will try and post a photo of the rear of the ute tonight. The "sunroof " was because Ruskin(the aussie body maker)didnt have the tooling to stamp out a one piece roof for the coupes,i think thats the case, please somebody correct me if im wrong, just a novice at this old car stuff.
  • OMG! What a grand looking old truck. I love it! Thanks for posting, Skipster. I'll be looking for some more...slim
  • heres some more pictures(hopefully) remember those chimps in the movie 2000AD banging furiously with both hands on the mysterious object?thats me on the computer!

Is that Rupe's old Terraplane ute, used to be all red..???
  • thats the one,its the only 36 terra ute that i know of,any more out there?
  • No sun roof, in the states 1936 was the first of the full steel pressed roof. but here in Australia we did not. So our 36 straight through to 1947 all model cars (except imported models) had a steel insert which was lead wiped in place as our presses were not big enough at Ruskins body plant.

This ute appears to have a vinal insert.

The utes were available as a 1. coupe utilty (like the 36 shown here) 2.ute (like the 1939 112) 3.soft top ute. All are rare as hens teeth now.

Skipster, You wouldn't be playing Robert Johnson's "Terraplane Blues" on that National Style O, would you? Dee
  • Hah,well spotted Dee, I am a musician by trade, specializing in music fromthe 1920s and 30s."Terraplane blues" has always been a favourite of mine to play, plus ive always wanted an old car,so a Terraplane was my first choice.I contacted the Victorian HET club and Phil the secretary told me about Rupes 36 Ute that might be for sale.A Terraplane,a Ute,and not too far from where i lived,i had to have it.I joined the club as well and a better bunch of helpful and friendly blokes you couldnt find. All of them know more about cars than i do,but none of them can play Terraplane Blues!
