This number is stamped on the front right side of the engine in the 53 Super Wasp I just got. 202978 --- What does it tell us? How can I be sure it is the original engine?

thanks!

If the number by the waterpump / manifold matches the serial on the passenger door post it's original. So if that tag says 4C or 5C202978 and it's a 232 / 262 it's original.

What Aaron said. Additionally, the car came off the production line sometime in November 1952, so it's an early model. 5,121 units were produced in Nov. 1952.

In all there were 21,143 Jet models, 17,792 Wasp/Super Wasp and 27,208 Hornets produced in 1953. :D

Took me 25 years to find that data. It's in my General Information Handbook.
