Just took the 37 rear end apart to inspect the ring and pinion, bearings and replace seals. Looks like this is a 4 .59 ratio as that is stamped into the ring -

( 44541 4 5/9:1 9 7 )

The ring and pinion is buggered up and I want to replace them. First off, what years will interchange? Second, this is not an overdrive pu, so I would like to go with a little higher ratio. ?

Chime in!

    FYI

I have a complete extra rear end for a 1937 Hudson '8'. The car sat inside for yrs. It revolves freely but do not know ratio or actual cond. Probably 4.10 ratio because of 8 cyl without OD.If any interest send a PM.

There was a recent discussion about this sort of thing, can't recall who started it, but 3.5 rearend gears were being reproed by Pat McDonald in the U.K. However, he may no longer be doing this. And the price is upwards of $600. But, you will not find used gears of this ratio, they were a seldom-ordered option "in the day".

You could consider a complete rear axle transplant from a 1960's MoPar or Mustang, but that's a whole 'nuther discussion....

Thanks for the offer, but I am hoping to find something closer to me (north Fla).
