The following is posted for Dr. Doug:



The first picture is of Vern Ellis and band members. The next 3 are Mark McClenathan and Tim Lloyd removing the trans. in Rick Crawley's '49 C6 sd. The clutch had gone out when they were out on one of the tours. The funny thing is Mark had asked me the night before if there was an easier way to do this job since he was installing one in his '53 Hornet and had never done one before. After this,Mark has a real good idea!-there isn't one!!!! LOL. Tim Lloyd's help was priceless.

    I always thought it was pretty neat that you could remove the tranny's in the step-downs from inside the car. In fact Hudson had a kit just for that. Consisted of a piece that laid across the door windows and had a small come-along (same idea) that was actually used to crank the tranny up into the car.

    I know my description of the hoist is a bit vague - I've heard of it, may have seen an article about it. But I've never seen one or seen it done.
