Brake shoe question
In this pile of parts I am putting together for the 37 PU, I found that the rear brake backing plates are bigger than the front brake backing plates. 12.5 vs 13.5-- So I am wondering if the Hudson front brake backing plates are the bigger size as well and if they are, does anyone have a set of the bigger backing plates for the front that I could purchase for this project?
Mechanical procedure manual shows this for 37 brakes--
Terraplane Hudson 6 Hudson Eight
Length per wheel --22 1/8" 22 1/8" 23 15/16"
?

FYI
I removed all the originals from my '37's and found Terraplane's to have smaller Drums & brake shoes than Hudson's, but never measured the back plates.
If want better braking for the project Truck suggest purchase a set of '48 - '54 Commodore or Hornet 2.225 x 11" front brakes, drums, and backing plates. They bolt right on but need to mix & match brgs. I have installed two sets now and make a big difference.
The latter parts may be easier to locate in old Yards locally. However, Dave Kostanck (our new & used Hudson Parts Supplier) suggested by Kevin C. can be reached at 440 293 4079.0 -

Did the same with my '39 112.
I got all of the parts (drums, backing plates, wheel cylinders, seals, bearings, hoses, reducer) for the conversion from Dave Kostansek.

Good info that I will use in the future.
I took a look at a model 71 chassis out back and it has the bigger front drums on it. I will pull them tomorrow for use on the truck.0 -
The trucks typically carried the larger brakes used on the Hudson 8 cylinder cars.0

In the Hamilton, OH craigslist there is a front axle for sale for $49. Looks rough but maybe just what someone needs for parts.
No affiliation.
