Proper hydraulic oil (not brake fluid) as used in fork lifts, truck hoists, etc. Otherwise you can use 90 grade gear oil.0

Tried both in my 30H but the 90 gear oil controlled the ride much better.

You can pickup fork oil at any Harley dealership and it should be the right weight and kind.0

Just finished rebuilding my 2 front shocks on a 29 Hudson sedan. Used 90 gear oil and the operation is perfect. If you're rebuilding, remember to really clean out the metering valve under the ball bearing and the tubes that tie the two plunger sides to the metering valve.
