Engine Swap?

I'm either thinking of a 4.0 L jeep engine or a short-deck Oldsmobile V8 for my 1954 Super Wasp. Any thoughts?

Yeah, why, when there are more Hudson engines around than you can shake a stick at.
  • 308 Twin H.
  • I agree with the above 2 posts, at least keep a Hudson engine under the hood.

    like DaveFury stated, 308 & Twin-H, good combination in a short-wheelbase Hudson ! !

Yes, what they said above. If you want a Jeep or an Olds, then go get one. Don't contaminate a good Hudson Chassis with something else! ! !

Well, if you absolutely have to put something different in your Wasp why not keep it 'spiritually' Hudson with a Ford six. As I understand, and those who know please correct me, one of the engineers responsible for the Hudson racing engines took the in-development overhead valve inline six design to Ford after Hudson's demise. I have a Ford 300 Big Six that I am itching to put in something, and while my 308 seems in good shape if it goes south I'll stick the 300 in. That 300 is a awsome engine, mine has over 250,000 HARD miles and the cross hatch is still in the bores.

I think you might find alittle more love in the street rod section. I for one think an engine that is period correct would be cool. I always thought an old fuelie 283 would look good sittin in one of these old girls.I like the Hudson engines as good as any but it's your car do what you want. Your the one that has to drive it...

Rebuild the Jet motor and put a supercharger on it...will cost about the same when you get done with swapping in something else.
