30 Gas Cap

Our 1930 Hudson Roadster is missing a gas cap thanks to pilfering while it was at the Forney Museum in Denver. The director indicated he was searching for a replacement. However, this is my car and I want to find a gas cap that is in excellent condition just like the one that was stolen. Any leads would be appreciated.:) We will be in Spokane, so perhaps I can locate one there.

Bill, I'm sorry to hear about that. Is it possible that you could post a photo -- possibly from a sales brochure or anything that would give people an idea what this looks like? Or perhaps you could do a sketch and make a PDF of it, and post it somewhere. It's possible someone has one of these kicking around his "spare Hudson parts" box and has no idea what it is.
Does it interchange with any other year Hudson gas cap?0 -
Does it interchange with any other year Hudson gas cap?[/QUOTE]
Yes, but not exactly. the '29 and '30 gas caps will fit either tank, but the '30 cap is very slightly different. Both have a 12-sided pattern, with flat portions on the top reaching a peak in the middle. However, the '30 caps have a raised ridge up each line.0 -

Like Geoff said, the one on the right is 30 on left 29. I think the raised ridges show up clearly.
As a bit of history the 29 cap is from my grandfathers 29 Essex he bought new in 29, it along with the crank handle hole cover my father kept when the Essex was sold around 1951 and they are both in my posession and I will pass them along to my children when the time comes.
Forgot the caps are approx 2 7/8 ins in dia.

I appreciate the detail that Spencer and Geoff offered that distinguishes the 30 cap. I need one with the raised ribs.

Hi Bill,
the earlier ones come up on eBay quite often, not so much as the 1 you are after, as for me this is the 1st time I have seem the peaks on the ridges, but that is maybe because in the past they may have been re polished which removed them maybe!
But at least having it pretty close to start off would work in the interim
a thought

Thanks Mike. I would not be surprised to see the cap from our car appear on ebay. I'll monitor that site for a while. Perhaps I should drop by NZ ... appears to me that a lot of 20 to 30 model Hudson products have found residence there.0

I obtained a very nice 30 gas cap from Del Fast in Texas. Needed a little internal work but appearance is excellent. No luck in Spokane. I bid on the 29 cap that you mentioned but felt it was not as good as the one I bought from Del. Thanks to all who offered assistance. I am still watching the Internet to see if someone tries to sell the one they took from my car.

I did find a gas cap thanks to Del Fast. I am still looking for the original. I appreciate the fact that others are looking too. Thanks to everyone for the concern expressed and help offered.
