Electrical problem

I started my Jet up last night, and was checking the lights, (I always do that before I take it for a drive) While i had the parking lights on they blinked on and off every 4 or 5 secounds. There is a clicking sound when the lights go on and off, and it sounds like it is coming from under the dash. It does not have turn signals, so It coudn't be the flasher. I tried the headlights and they were fine. has anybody got an idea what could be going on?? I am afraid to drive it, i don't want it to go up in flames!

Barry, Hudson 308 is correct about the circuit breaker. for your lights it should actually be mounted as part of the switch (there is a second mounted under the dash that feeds for everything else that does not have an inline fuse), the circuit breaker is doing its job and is not the problem here. Since you have the problem with the parking lights and not the headlights you have an issue in the feeds for one of the front parking lights or for the light at the ignition key - the rest of the lights are on with the headlights. I guess the switch itself is a possibility but much less likely. Also if it was a weak circuit breaker, since headlights increase the draw considerby, the problem should not go away with them on.
  • I have the same issue with flashing headlights on my 49. This was the scariest drive of my life in the rain with the headlights cutting out and the wipers not working.

The current wire harness has many exposed areas. I just got a new wire harness from Y&Z. Hopefully this will cure my issue.

The problem will most likely be where one of the wires go through the bodywork down to the park lamps. There is a junction block each side of the radiator, so cast your "eyo-ometer" over the wires coming off these. Good luck

    Geoff.
  • I found the problem!:D It was the junction where all of the headlight wires meet on the passenger side. The serew that holds the parking light wires was touching the radiator frame. You coudn't see it because it was underneath where the wires mount, I just happen too see a spark. Geoff, that "eye" o-meter works pretty good!;)

    Thanks to all who replied:)
