Just got my all metal, chrome face underdash A/C evaporator unit from Vintage Air. I had previously fabricated a dual pulley harmonic balancer, and now am ready to get a compressor installed on my Twin H Coupe.

sure could use some detail pics of any other installations, with focus on the mounting brackets and pulley arrangement?

If posting on this site is tricky, just attach them directly to my email:

  • I emailed you some info, Bob
  • Check out jaylenosgarage.com and search HUDSON. Jay put a vintage air unit in one of his Hudson's and has a short video on it.... It may be some help? Good luck!

Not familiar with Jay's installation, but I recommend contacting Park Waldrop. His installation in his '51 Hornet Convertible is the cleanest and most attractive I've seen. He had a special bracket made, and sometime later, someone picked up the ball and started manufacturing the same brackets for sale to Hud owners. I bought one, but cannot remember the contact's name, at the moment. You would need a dual-groove harmonic balancer, but the beauty of the set-up, is that you can use the single water pump pulley. Also, keeps the lines away (and on the other side of the block) from the exhaust manifold and the heat generated on the pass. side of your engine.

Doesn't Joe Stinnett in Florida still reproduce the factory Hudson compressor bracket? I have one I purchased at a meet in Florida many years ago and I also have an original one. They are pretty faithful to the original except made out of aluminum.

Yes, and quite frankly, they SUCK for using modern equipment. They might be all fine and well for original equipment on display in a museum, but certainly not for practical use. I used one on my '52 Sedan, and I wouldn't in my wildest dreams wish that experience on another living soul. Half of the bracket had to be cut up and another half had to be fabricated in order to utilize a Vintage Aire compressor. In the end, it works, but only due to daft ingenuity on my part.

Give me a call and I'll be glad to tell you how I REALLY feel about it!

    Russell,

You forgot my name? BTW, I'm no longer in the compressor bracket business due to lack of interest.

Yes, I apologize, Jason. If I've dealt with someone long distance in the past, and we have not yet met face to face, names don't normally stick with me. My shortcoming, I know. Once we meet, and shake hands, you're with me for life, I assure you.

One thing to remember, I network with over 500 people on a semi-regular basis, many of which I have not personally met, but either e-mailed or talked to on the phone. The older I get, I've noticed my memory is certainly finite.

Again, my apologies. Loved your product, and if you have any more on hand, there might be enough interest to move them.
