I have a chance to buy a 6 cyl. engine with dual carb intake manifold. It has a 500 head on it. The number on the right side by the exhaust manifold is 48296300. It does have the dual carb manifold on it. Can you tell me what size engine this is and what year and model Hudson it came out of?:confused: Thanks for your help everyone!! Bill

    by the serial number, it is from a 48 commodore 6 and thus a 262. the head is from a 50 paemaker i.e. a 232
  • Thanks for the answer Nick. Could I use the dual carb manifold on a 308 block? Are the manifolds all the same or did they have different size manifolds on the 308? Bill
  • Bill, The twin H manifold was made for the 308. It also happens to fit the 232 and 262. The exhaust manifolds will interchange twin H with single carb. All interchange from 48-53. 54 was slightly different in the exhaust manifold flange. Minor bolt lengths have to be switched out from one to the other . Additionally a slight modification has to be made for the choke heat tube.

    all the manifolds are not the same. the 308 and 262 manifolds share a casting and will bolt to either block but they differ in center distance of the mounting studs for the carbs as the 262 took a smaller carb. The compatability of exhaust manifolds is as hudzilla mentions for 48-54, however the 55-56 must be used with a 55-56 twin h exhaust manifold but as a whole works on the stepdowns with minimal extra effort.
  • I understand this engine is a 262 from a 48 Hudson. If I want to buy this engine for the Twin H set up, how do I determine if this manifold is for the 262 or if it would be for a 308? Do we know what the measurement on the carburetor studs would be? Maybe a casting number on the manifold? I would like to buy it for a 308 Twin H set up. Thank you! Bill
  • Get a center to center measurment on the mounting studs for one of the carbs and post it on here. I'm sure someone can tell you which one it is from that. The casting number can probably do yhe same thing unless the same casting was used for both units and just machined differently. I can get the info off a 308 twin-h setup tomorrow but it'll be tomorrow evening before I'll be able to get back on here;

    I have a 262 twin H manifold, and will try to remember to measure it today, for when you post your measurments.

    BTW, I have no need for my 262 manifold, so it is available. Make offer.
  • Thanks Guys! I'll measure the stud distance and post the measurement on here. Bill
