Best electric fuel pump

Jim, I will share some experiences with you. Carter does make a rotary vane 6v,it's good, but real large, and difficult to hide it from judges, if that matters.But not a problem on pre step downs. Fifth Ave parts sells Carter gear driven(carator) pumps in 12 volt only, as Carter does not make 6v carator pumps( see Federal- Mogul). These pumps have some problems when not run for a week or more, like not starting. Look back a few months ago at threads re this. These pumps, that I just mentioned, need pressure regulators since they will push in excess of 5PSI. The other electric pump is the 6v solenoid type. These are common, small and cheap(@$50). They don't need a regulator as they get up to only about 4.5 psi at the carbs when mounted near the fuel tank and another plus is that they don't create too much of a restriction in the fuel line. The first two types can not be installed in line between the gas tank and ( if you still have one) the mechanical fuel pump. They will block the flow, starve the mech pump and make it necessary to run the elec all the time. This could cause fuel to be pushed into the crankcase. Goodnight Irene! Rcommendation... the solenoid pump and either use the elec to prime start then shut off until the mech pump( if) begins to fuel starve, Or lose the mech pump entirely and use the elec only. I do the latter on my Hornet with fine results at temps of 100+.

Walt, I couldn't find a Borg Warner brand recently. I purchased a AC-Delco from Rock Auto for $43( 6v E11or 8011). It looks the same as an Airtex. Works well. I carry a spare in the trunk. I can swap it out in 20 minutes if need be. Put a clear filter before it to observe any conditions.
