Have just returned from Warrnambool in Victoria. 25 old cars came for the bi annual rally. Warrnambool is on the ship wreck coast - Google it for more info. It was a very friendly rally, with a lot of the usual HUB. Oldest car was a 1921 Essex. A late appearance was a barn find Essex - it was driven off the trailer. Here are a few photos.

That Essex "barn find" must be a home-built job!!! By that I mean was built by an Aussie body maker. Be interesting to find out more about it.

  • Wish I could have been there! Next year I should have the 1928 Essex Roadster on the road (see avatar).

Is that Geoff Clark from NZ in the first photo?

Hello Alex. The Essex has an interesting history. I will let Geoff or someone else tell the story so that it will be correct. Peter, in 2 years the next rally will be closer to you, so see you then. I hope that in 2 years time everyone would have recovered from the GFC and that we will have a few overseas visitors attending to see how its done in Aust. Regards, Barry

Yes that looks a lot like Geoff LOL, seems to be well rugged up from the cold weather they get in Victoria.

Thanks for the pictures. Did it rain at the meet? The 29 looks wet on the trunk. It appears you are having cold weather. In Burbank last week we had a record high of 110F degree and today it is sprinkling. Expecting rain the next two days.
I really enjoy seeing all the pre-war cars over there and hearing about the trips taken in them.

Just back home from the rally in Victoria, congratulations to Phil Haxby and crew for another well organised rally. On a personal note I've travelled about 2200 miles in a 53 Hornet which has behaved faultlessly, used 2 pints of oil.

The weather was, for a non-Victorian unbelievably changeable, you could have freezing horizontal rain, and an hour later it could be calm and warm with blue skies and sunshine.

The barn find Essex was brilliant, I believe it was put off the road in 1951 and sat in the corner of a garage workshop until it was purchased by the current owner 5 years ago.
  • For such a knowledgable and helpful authority on all things hudson,Geoff clark sure knows a lot of corny jokes!
