Which is the better Twin-H Intake? Early or Late?

Hey Guys-
Thanks to a gentleman on here I was informed that both of the Twin-H intakes I have are in fact for the 308, but one is for the 48-54 and one is for the 55-56.

I assume that the earlier manifold with the exterior equalizer tube would be a better breather (and therefore more desirable if someone desired more speed) than the later manifold with the internal equalizer tube. Is this assumption correct?

I mean, the 7X of lore used the earlier manifold, right? Did casting the equalizer tube in the manifold to gain clearance for the shock towers on the Nash bodies inhibit the performance at all?

p.s. It's amazing what a couple hours in the garage with a wire brush can do to gussy up a poor neglected manifold. Suddenly it looks sinister instead of sad. Mwuahahaha! I gotta get some pics tomorrow.

    The balance tube is only that, it shouldn't have vast amounts of air flowing through it. So as long as the bores of the 2 styles of balance tubes are similar I can't see it making any performance difference.
  • Thank you Mr. Ward. I didn't imagine it would make a huge difference, but figured I'd ask.

    Since there was no solid interest in the earlier intake (probably because it needed some TLC) I decided to keep that for my 308 build and went ahead and listed the later intake for sale on Ebay if there is any interest in that one. Its basically ready to go and I NEED to make some quick cash to buy some other parts.

    Sambone, keep in mind, you said it was "ready to go". Not sure if you did it, but keep in mind, that on the bottom side of these intakes, there are 6 freeze plugs that have to be removed in order to clear out the carbon build-up inside. I've taken them out before and found some intakes to be solidly clogged before. Dental picks, screwdrivers, and an air nozzle do a good job of removing the carbon. The plugs are 7/8" plugs which can be got at virtually any auto supply house. It will require new ones as the old ones are best removed by drilling a hole, inserting a rod or screwdriver and prying them out. New ones are dropped in place (with or without sealant, I like using some), and then peened in the middle to get them to expand and fit tight in the hole.

    The later intake that cleaned up so nicely seems to be surprisingly clean inside from what I can tell. On the other hand, the earlier intake revealed some nasty surprises when I managed to tear it apart. All of the freeze plugs on the bottom were shot and it and the exhaust manifold were full of rust.
    I'm actually quite glad that no one purchased it while it was for sale as I would have been embarrassed when they found out like I did. It was not a pleasant surprise. In fact, it ticked me off having purchased it from a "friend" last year. I doubt he was responsible for powdercoating the manifolds, but whoever did it did a horrible job. It is clear that they didn't bother to take apart the manifolds or even clean them up prior to painting. If somethings worth doing, isn't it worth doing right?:pinch:
