I've finished scanning the 1948-1952 shop manual and it has been uploaded to the Manuals section of the on-line library:

Alex,
What are you going to do once winter sets in, do you have other projects to scan?
Thanks for all that you do for the club.

I have some 1949 material coming that I'll be working on. I'd really like to get my hot little fingers such things as bulletins and service letters. Bulletins like the company would send to dealers saying "this is how you fix that." And so on.
I really have to get on John and find out what's in the club library. Maybe someday I'll make a trip up to his place.

Yes, I try to make them searchable - a great feature on some that are over 200 pages.
I use a rather time consuming 3-step method. First I scan the document with OmniPage, an optical character recognition (OCR) program. Illustrations have to be done separately - I used MS PictureIt for that. From the OCR I paste the results into a word processing program - I use a program called PagePlus. I can do things like frame on frame and other useful features. Finally, once I'm satisfied with the PagePlus document, I save it in Adobe - which gives a searchable document.
I can usually turn out a manual, for example, in anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks - depends on the number of pages, number of illustrations, how motivated I am :P . For example the 1948-1954 Master Parts Catalog took me about 6 weeks working about, oh 5 hours a day average and an average 5 day week. Other manuals go quicker. Despite their size the 1948-1954 Body Service manual took me a little over two weeks and the 1948-1952 Shop manual about 3 weeks.
Keeps me off the streets.

lol, or you could just as easily pick up an affordably priced reprint through the club store. They're even spiral bound! Course, if you're a mechanic, you might be able to convince the boss it's an educational tool and shop resource and can also be used as a coaster or paper weight.
P.S. I dig the Ghastly Ones!0 -

Yeah, I could do that. But at this point in time I'm a cheap SOB.Besides, thats half a tank of gas for my thirsty GMC around here. Not to mention my lovely wife and kids seem to have me wrapped around their fingers. ALWAYS gettin' what they want.
And the Ghastly Ones... Hell, you can't go wrong with a band with their own Go-Go dancer and who ride around in a '56 Caddy Hearse.0
