master cylinder

I haven't been able to log on to either Ken Cates page or the Backus swaps manual. Is there a NAPA or Autozone (or other common parts store) part number for a master cylinder that fits a stepdown?
Thanks
Ed

NAPA 3081, from the Backus book.
  • Contact Norm Blackmer in the CIC chapter, or the WTN, as he handles new cylinders, wheel, master and hoses. Keep the business in the club. Walt.
  • Kenny Cordel in Ohio also sells them. 740-983-1700

Park, That's an old number. The new NAPA number is 2796. :)

'zilla, thanks for that new number. I realize the Backus book has a lot of outdated ones, but sometimes it's a useful start. But are you sure that's a stepdown master cylinder? Kind of a strange coincidence, as the Backus book shows NAPA/United 2796 as the master cyl for the Jets.
  • Park,

Bought a new master cylinder from NAPA for our 54 Hornet in April.

Part #3081 was a direct replacement, no issues what so ever.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Tom ... good to know that 3081's still a good number.

Is there a differant part # for Hornets and Jets, According to the 53 parts book they are ALL,ie, the same.
  • 1948-1954 book gives different #'s.
    JET- 308461
    OTHERS- 300130

This time I opened the 53 parts book instead of the 48-52, your right, of course. Hard to find a 52 Jet.
  • I was'nt being critical, I've found mistakes and omissions in the Hudson books. This 48-54 book was put together after the merger . And it's awful in that respect.
And I never have quite understood how some numbers cast into parts don't show up anywhere.

The 2796 number will fit the Jet series, and I don't believe it will be a perfect fit on the full size step down chassis
  • I sell them, $50.00 shipped to your door.

Thanks for all the information. It turns out it was a brake hose not the master cylinder. The dripping I saw on the master cylinder was overflow from filling it.
