Water Pump Pulley
There is a double water pump pulley on ebay. The bidding is now over $100.00.. GOOD GRIEF! I am wondering just how much it would cost to have an alluminum pulley made from a billet ? One at a time would be a little labor intensive, but With the CNC equipment available,.. Why not? They could be black coated or painted.. ? Surely a run of 50 or 100 would satisfy a lot of Hudson nuts..and keep the cost down.Yes it's me that is selling the original one..

That is a good suggestion. Another is I find dbl water pump pullys at Swap Meets with the same size'pilot hole' and back spacing then file the 4 bolt holes slightly to elongate for Hudson. However, I dont know the motor they came from but look like Chevy...

Remember a few weeks ago, everybody got excited because someone was going to make side valve covers out of billet aluminum with a CNC. When the cost ended up being $600 or so, suddenly all that could be heard was the chirping of the crickets. . .:whistle:0

That be me.
And when I asked what folks would be willing to pay, and tried to gauge interest in cheaper, simpler covers the crickets continued. No worries though.
That said, the offer is still open. Plane jane covers may be simple, but they'll seal better than stamped. Finned covers will obviously be more expensive. But the kicker was the 'HUDSON' one, it's time and machine intensive. 3 hour cut time, 5 or so different tools. And at that, you can't see the damned thing with stock intake/exhaust.
But, anyone interested can PM me. It's been awhile, so I would have to check prices again.0 -
We just put A/C on a 49 super 8, found a billet pulley at a swap meet and tried it. The hub on the water pump was drilled & tapped for two different bolt patterns, one Hudson & one Chevy. The pulley turned out to be a Chevy & we were able to use a 3/4" spacer behind it which lined it up perfectly with the crank pulley! Oh yeah, we used a Hornet double groove crank pulley. It fit on like it was made for it. This is all on a splasher 8 !0

A double water pump pulley would be a very simple item to make, and would be almost as quick on a manual lathe as a CNC set up. Its something I've thought of from time to time but I'm always lacking a dead double pulley to copy. Hint..... Anyone....?
That said though you are looking at a $20 or so piece of aluminium, by the time the pulley is made, packed and posted there would be little change from $100.0 -
I measured my 308 single belt water pump pulley, and assuming the double belt pulley is more or less those same overall dimensions, ie it can be made out of a piece of aluminium 140 dia x 65 long (5 1/2" x 2 1/2"), that works out at a little over $30 for the raw material rather than the $20 I guesstimated above.0

I'm still thinking that there's a double pulley with the proper offset out there somewhere, and merely needs the proper center hole and bolt pattern to work on our Hudsons.0
