Chassis Number for 1928 Essex Roadster

My 1928 Essex Roadster does not have the chassis stamped onto the rear right shackle bracket and does not have an original firewall plate. Is there a way to work it out from the engine number - 974931? To register it I need to have one and like it to be correct or close to it.

    Try looking on the left rear schackle. Just a thought.. Rich Smithen

    In my experience, you won't find a chassis number, apart from the plate on the bulkhead on any r.h.d. '28 or '29 Essex or Hudson. On the "home" (l.h.d.) models the number was stamped into the right rear spring hanger. I do have an I.D. plate if you want one, and you can stamp your own number into it. The engine numbers do not correspond to the car number (always higher), as they made more engines than cars. The '24 Essex were recalled and fitted with new motors in the U.S.A., as they were failing spectacularly. Here in the colonies we missed out on that deal.

    I have been given the following information ( a while ago), however all my recent searching I have been unable to confirm this for Essex.

    Can anyone confirm this especial for 1928?

    Does anyone have an 1928 Essex with engine number near 974931? If so, what is your chassis no. and type e.g. Roadster?

    In the mid 1920's the engine number was around 50,000 higher than the chassis numbers because of the 1924 situation that Geoff mentioned.

    Many thanx for the engine numbers. Can use them in my General Info Handbook. The 1930 motor numbers (1235001 to 1305000) agree with what I have; 1932 don't quite match - I have 1305001 to 130999. 1305001 would be the logical starting number in that 1930 ends with 1305000. Another mystery - Hudson is riddled with them.
