1935 Hudson Fuel Pump

Hello - I am wondering what would be the best source for a 1935 Hudson Fuel Pump.
I have been having issues with stalling and believe it comes down to replacing the fuel pump; although I will first try replacing spark plug and wires etc first. I would think sticking with a mechanical pump would probably be the best option - and was told Carter is a good choice. I've checked out the Kanter.com site, and see that they carry fuel pumps for my Hudson, but not sure about their quality - Does anyone have any advice? Thank you.

    Hey Alan,
I personally prefer not to do much biz with Kanter, and they are a bit spendy.
Look in the latest issue of the WTN for info. Also Dave Kostansek has rebuilts and or can rebuild yours. He is in Ohio, phone # is 440-293-4079.
    Good luck!

  • Yup, Kostanzaek's your best bet.

Last year I bought a new pump from Dave K that I have not yet installed.
Drop a PM if you would be interested in it. Will make a deal.
  • I think regardless of where you buy any parts from you need to know the problem first.

i agree with roger, what troubleshooting have you done to lead you to the fuel pump? did you pull the plugs, disconnect the fuel line at the carb, put the end of the hose in a bucket and spin the motor over and find no gas came out the hose? if no gas out the hose, is there gas in the tank? is the line from the pick up point in the tank to the fuel pump clear? or did you find gas in the oil indicating a bad diaphragm? regards, tom

I happened to find a new fuel pump in the 33T project I'm working on with the tag still on it- labeled 34-38 Hudson 6-8. I definately don't need it for the 33 as it's different. If you're interested let me know. I agree with the other guys, the pump may not be your problem. That said, a spare in the trunk is good insurance anyway.

However, I do need a fuel pump for a 33T8. The pump that was on the block has a cracked housing. Are any other years compatible?
  • Thanks everybody for your replies - I do need to do more testing on the vehicle to determine the exact cause of the stalling, but should it come down to the fuel pump, I now have good advice on how to proceed. Pretty much have the car in storage right now with full tank of gas mixed with Stabil. Plan to do additional work as time permits and hopefully have the car up and running again for meets in 2011. Thanks again to all! :)
