Hotel registration for 2011 National

Being one of those who gets in early, I called the Biltmore in Oklahoma City to make my room reservations for next years National meet.

First I was greeted by a cheerful young lady (I think it's a recording, but still cheerful and helpful). Following her directions to connect with the hotel operator, I asked for reservations and was quickly connected to Betty. The operator was upbeat and cheerful, as was Betty. She quickly filled in all the blanks, answered the few questions I had and was very helpful and courteous as well. I was a little vague about the exact dates I'll be arriving and departing, but she explained my options there and I expect no problems if I have to change my arrival and departure dates.

If these first two or three members of the Biltmore staff are any example we are going to be in very good hands next year.

Thanks, North Texas Chapter (so far) for what looks like is going to be a great National meet (site).

Alex, M signed in the day after we got home from Spokana, and said the same thing. Was treated very nicely by the person that took our order. Walt.

My experience with all the folks in Oklahoma was just as you described during a trip to the Chickasha swap meet a couple of years ago. Am very much looking forward to going back next year.

Back in 1956 I spent two months at a Navy tech school in Norman, OK, a little south of Oklahoma City. Looking back, of all the places I was stationed, Norman and Oklahoma City are really the only places I'd like to go back to. Such friendly people in that area.

Nice to see some places don't change in 50 years. :D

Don't think it's all that humid, Ray. I'm expecting high plains hot, myself.

A web search turned this up:

"Oklahoma City's climate is officially categorized as "humid subtropical." This essentially means there's a good variation from the hot summers to the chilly winters with a significant and well-dispersed amount of precipitation throughout the year. OKC is on the far west side of this zone, however, and it could also be said that we experience characteristics of the hotter semi-arid climate of west Texas and New Mexico."

Hey, that's why they got air in the hotel. A little heat is worth visiting friends and making new friends, right???

    Enjoy!!!! :D

I lived in North Texas (Dumas) for a bit and I think I will bring one of my cars that needs paint. One good dust storm and it will be sand blasted and save me some work. I am told that the cut down the barbed wire fence that stopped the wind from blowing from Canada.....

Only kidding, I am looking forward to an enjoyable week in OK. Now, only if the English Hudson can be finished by then.....

It seems like I've observed an "uptick" in customer service lately- I think everyone is worried about their jobs, and trying their darnest not to generate any complaints. Had to go to the state Corporations office this AM to get a corporation re-instated for a client, and have never been treated so pleasantly by a state employee. I wrote out an "attaboy" card on the spot.

Is the carb on the engine and running?? Walt.
  • Yes, it's HUMID in OKC that time of year..... believe it
  • I live in tjhe OKC metro area.

Damn right it's humid in the Summertime here! Depends on whether we have a strong southerly breeze that takes that Gulf moisture along for the ride! It's not Houston or NOLA muggy, but humid, just the same.
  • Can someone remind me of the dates of the 2011 National. I know it is in a WTN laying around here somewhere.....

    Walt,
The fellow doing my interior is not known for being fast. I could go down to his shop and put it on but that might just slow him down a bit. With the holliday season right around the corner, and realizing that he is so close to being finished, I have hopes that he will want his money for christmas. So with luck, it should be on before the end of the year. The car is currently running just fine with the unit that is on the car... However, it is tired and ready for a change...

Do plan to have it for the Western Regional in so California.....
