I'd like to know if anyone has a color name or number for the red wheels on my 50 Commodore. Is powder coating practical for wheels?
Thanks in advance,
Kim

Powder coating is great for wheels,IMO,did it on my 31 Ford. Very durable and tougher to chip when tire mounting, but colors may be limited to what the "coater" has available.I used the same paint that was the body color on my 53(Seal Gray). The air cleaners are Vermillion Red.

I like the powder coating and have had my 39 roadster wire wheels done. My jobber told me he could mix any automobile color and match any car color. Not sure on the red wheels.... But would like to know....

I just got a standard red for the powder coat on the wheels of my '50C6. Looks great!
  • Factory color for 46 was "royal red". I believe it was the same for 50

I used a Rustoleum spray can heavy duty rust dark red paint on my '50 Pacemaker Deluxe's wheels. First I had the wheels completely stripped of any of the old paint by having them sandblasted. Then I used a Rustoleum gray primer before the red paint was applied. So far, for the past ten years, they've held up really well. The wheel dark red looks very much like the original dark red.
