Selling a FLASHY '46 Hudson Super Six Club Coupe. These were the FIRST model year after the war ended and demand was HIGH!

Here's a great old classic car that would be PERFECT to drive, parade, and ENJOY. Not mint, BUT VERY PRESENTABLE overall. Has near new tires, complete dash and interior, and good enough paint and chrome that you won't need to do anything to enjoy and drive it!

This car came out of an estate and hasn't been driven for about 3 years. Engine turns but currently appears to not be getting gas to fire and isn't starting. I will be putting it in the shop next week to get it running OR buy it as it sits and I'll knock some off the price for you doing the work.

Don't wait ... be ready for Spring and Summer cruising, parades, and car shows with YOUR "1946 Hudson Super Six Club Coupe".

sale-qzcqg-2225999326@craigslist.org

Looks like the asking price is $8500 and that is the "after taking it to the shop price".

Before starting I suggest you drop the oil pan and clean the sludge build up out of the oil pan and escecially the oil tray where connection rod scoops get their oil.

When I dropped my oil pan in my 47 before starting there was close to 1 inch of sludge in both.

You do not want to starve the rod bearing of oil.

'46's have a special place in my heart.

Did you know that you can get two 300 pound Holstein heifers in the back of a '46 business coupe? Its actually better with 2 rather than 1, so they're wedged in a little better and don't jump around as much. But you have to have a 12 year old kid (me) back there to keep order, or they'll try to jump over the seat, which is an unnecessary distraction for the driver.

The State Patrol, which had the herd corralled out by Interstate 5, would rather we had a larger carrying capacity, I think- because the whole operation took most of the night.

Those were the good ole days!

  • The owner has decided to get the car running. As of this morning the car is not sold. There is a possibility that the owner will keep the car and join the ranks of the HUDSON NUTS.

I purchased this 46 Coupe last weekend. Now I am a new Hudson owner. I really like the car but I am sure I will like it better once I get her running  I have placed a new battery and cleaned the cables but she still turns over slow. I am going to have to drop the tank and clean it and maybe replace the fuel lines and fuel pump but right now I was just wanting to get her started on an temp tank so I can hear her run so I know what I am going to need to do through the winter. Thanks to akcoop for his help in acquiring her and his answers to all my newbie questions..and boy do I have a lot of them

Les and I used to work together and he is the reason I have a '73 wheel horse tractor. He liquidated his tractor collection (except for some favorites) and bought a Hudson! John Forkner and I looked at this 46 early this year and Les got a nice car. Best interior I have seen on an original car. Now I just have to get over to Les's house and help him get it started!!
  • Wellcome to the Hudson owners circle . You may not have a cranking problem at all if you are not used to what engine an cranking on 6 -Volt sounds lkie .
You can check the voltage drop at the starter to see if you realy are drawing down the battery. You also have to make sure and get a big enough battery. NAPA has a good one for about $95.00 .Get the biggest one that will fit your holders.

  • Make sure the new battery isnt too tall. It will hit the hood when closed, and burn a nice place in your hood...RD
  • Yes you do have to watch the hood, it helps to get a battery with terminals away from fender. That way the hood is not so close,I have shorted one out before - its not fun,

Make sure you have the correct 6 volt battery cables (about 3/4" thick) not the 12 volt ones you see everywhere at car parts stores.

Sounds like you have the right battery, however in case you've accidentally bought one that's too tall, be aware that NAPA still carries a 5019L which is only 7-1/2" high but only has about 440 cold cranking amps. Antique Auto Battery has a 2L for Fords that's 10.25x6.75x8 with 600 CCA for about $209. The Optima gel-type 6-volt batteries are quite small but pricey. DEKA's 19L is less than $100 but again, has about a 440 CCA rating.

Thank you everyone I sure appreciate any and all suggestions. I bought an Optima 6V red top. I am wondering if I have provided a full initial charge on it as it should be. All I have is a 6v 6amp charger and I have been reading where it is suggested a high amp charge 15 min and 15 min cool time repeated 4 times is the suggested way to put an initial charge on these. I have had it on my small charger for 12 hours and it still is taking about 3 1/4 amps and the battery is just starting to warm. I am also wondering if the gentleman before was not jumping the car with 12v and I am now wondering the state of the starter as i do not know how long he cranked it. I know from my old Ford 6v tractors that you can burn up the starter that way. I will now have the weekend to work with her.
I have another problem nowm though :S when I got the car off the trailer I needed it back about 15 more feet so I had the wife steer while I pushed the car...well an hour later I was at the hospital...I tore a calf muscle pushing the car  Now not only does the car not run but neither do I.
Not a good way to start out. Again thanks to all

    It's Alive :woohoo:

She started up and sat there and ran for a while. The water got hot (the top hose was but not the one on the other side of the pump). I need to find me a thermostat and gasket and get that replaced. then grease the pump. I took a look into the gas tank and it looks like there is just a small amount of rust on the top of the tank but I can not see in the sides (I didn't know that a gas tank was divided into three sections). It looks like it has been sealed before and the top didn't get coated as well. I am not certain if I should try to seal it myself the way it is separated.
I am going to pull the fuel pump tomorrow night and start looking for another or have this one rebuilt once I remove it and get the numbers off of it or make sure I get the right one.

Thanks to Everyone for all of the input

    I'm getting excited.
