Hemmings did a Books and Lit section and reconized WTN as a three star magazine worth reading. Someone up there likes us. It's about time. Keep looking good WTN. I always read it cover to cover in one day and then re-read to make sure that I don't miss anything..

  • If there's anything wrong with the WTN - it's that there is to much time between issues!!!!!!!! Keep up the good work SamJ - good things are worth waiting for.

  • Amen, Alex! Good work Sam, WTN alone is worth the membership fee.

Here's (a rather bad scan of) a recent cover of the WTN, just so anyone who doesn't know what we're talking about can see it!

I just got my hands on a copy of WTN a nice HET member sent me to look at (I think to help entice me to join ;) ) Shhhh... don't tell anyone they even mentioned and pictured a couple of customs!

It is a nicely done magazine with really nice paper stock and printing quality. They don't spare any expense there!

I still strongly think it’s a shame there isn't an HET effort to get the WTN published online. I don't know if HET has a librarian (most car clubs do) but there should even be a push to scan and publish online as many old WTN Issues as can be found for HET members.
Although this sounds like a monumental and insurmountable task - losing that history and information for future generations of Hudson lovers - would in my mind be catastrophic for an organization such as HET and the history and resources it has available.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here and most folks think I shouldn't complain 'cause I haven't forked out the $$ yet to join HET - I STILL THINK ITS A SHAME!

You are correct is assuming that scanning copies of the WTN would be a monumental task. I've scanned a lot of stuff Hudson in the past few years - including a couple recent WTN's. It takes about a day - to do it right. So taking just the collection I have, going back to 1980, that's 25 years with - 6 issues a year, around 150 copies. So in order to do it right and in a timely fashion it would have to be done professionally, and I don't have the figures as to how much it would cost, but it would probably be rather high - especially if you tried to go back to the 1960's - over 40 years. If you could find WTN's back that far.

In the meantime probably the best we can hope for is people like me who have scanned bits and pieces out of the old WTN's and saved them in some form or other - I've continued Art Adams format and made technical bulletins out of them. Anybody wants an index to see what they cover drop me an email - if anybody wants them (based on current expectations I don't expect much) I'll run 'em onto a CD for $10.

The WTN is created in a program calle Quark, and is sent to the printer on disk. There is no need to scan it, since it already exists on disk. The disks are sent to the HET Club Librarian, John O'Halloran for storage. As for scanning all 300+ issues produced since 1959, that's not likely. There is a copy of every issue in the library, and John will copy any article and send it to you for a nominal fee. He also has hundreds of service manuals, service, bullitens, etc. which you can also access. John's contact info is in the WTN, so join and access it!
  • Sam: As you might know you can create pdf's of the quark documents these days. The issues could be sold as PDF's if you wish. By the way I have done many magazines in Qurark over the years and the WTN is a really good magazine. Thanks for all of the great work. I would love to see more color but that is always a matter of money.

Excellent information SamJ! Slowly but surely the rank and file of HET will demand more online access.

I really think HET would greatly expand their membership if their online stategy included a "Members Only" area which required 1) Basic HET Membership and 2) Secure login area to get to goodies such as online WTN Issues and other eye candy or special products.

When I do join HET I'll put together a proposal to try and get things moved online - which will be after I get a job and the 49 is running!
