I need to remove the rotating radio arial from my stepdown. I don't want to damage any of the parts since I will be re-installing it. Do I start on the inside by removing the cap on the ball or do I start on the outside? A step by step would sure help.

thanks,

Chaz

  • Do a search here for Stepdown antenna removal. I did not know how to bring the relevent post forward. There is a good discussion on removal with pictures. The antenna come off from the inside. Key, there are two nuts to remove.

Start inside. Remove the knob by loosening a slotted screw. Then remove the large nut and washer holding the plastic escuteon. There will be another nut under the plastic escuteon piece. Remove it. There is a small wire soldered to the antenna be careful not to break the solder joint. That wire is connected to the hard stainless wire that comes up from the dashboard. It slips over the top of that wire .. a small female wire connector. You might need a needle nose plier to reach in and pull it up off the hard stainless wire. From there it's all down hill. Just keep everything in the order you took it off. Good Luck

  • Does anybody have a complete antenna setup for sale? I'm looking for one with a blue escutcheon and knob for my '54 Hornet. It's currently got the dealer added one on the cowl which I think is ugly. Thanks.
