1916 Hudson Speedster _ Great Race Winner

Today, March 12, 2011, the members of the South Texas HET club were the guests of Dicks Classic Car Museum of San Marcos Texas. Our regularly scheduled meeting was held at the museum. In addition to the exquisite collection of cars within the museum the parking lot was filled to overflow with classic cars participating in a car show sponsored by the museum.

Dick Burdick, owner of Dicks Classic Car Museum has a special affection for Hudsons. He is the owner and driver of the 1916 Hudson Speedster that has won First-place Pro Division at the Great Race on multiple occasions. The winning car has a special place in the rotunda entry of Dick's museum. If you travels take you to San Marcos a visit to this museum will be a worthy excursion. Make sure to set aside several hours to complete a tour of the contents.

    I was an entry in the show with my '60 Imperial. Other than Burdick's museum cars (including the '38 Hudson Terraplane pickup, '53 Jet and '57 Hollywood, I never was aware of any Hudson present outside nor of any members. No cars driven, no tee shirts, no nada. Whassup guys? Mr. Parasiole (sp?) did briefly say hello as we both own '34 Terraplane open cars.

    Fair comments, none of the members present drove thier cars to the meeting. Dick provided a room for our meeting which was over at noon. I also expected to see some Hudson cars at the meet and was surprised to see none. I toured the lot and spoke with a number of folks. The fellow with the Blue GTO and I had a lengthy discussion about engines. My wife actually commented on your car. Not intending to provide an excuse, and I can't speak for the others, but my Hudson is currently undergoing a transmission transplant so it was not driven to the meet. Having the opportunity to get together at a chapter meet is important enough to me that we traveled 150 miles to attend. Glad to have had the opportunity to enjoy your car with the others at the show.

    Thanks for posting such great pictures of the Speedster. :) It would be a treat to see this car or even better to drive it. :woohoo:
