Clutch Parts

Hi again. I was wondering if anyone new where to find new clutch parts for my 51 super six? Do they still make new parts just for the Hudson? What parts would I need to do a complete, correct rebuild? I got the car rolling on the road this weekend for the first time and the clutch seemed OK. But after a few miles and a small hill, I knew something wasn't right. Now I can barely get this over a 1 1/2 inch bump. Its at the point where you can put it in gear and hold the brake and let the clutch out and the car will not stall. The car shudders a little too when you finally get her moving. I got the right amount of fluid in her too. At the same time I guess I would replace the seals on it too along with the seals for the tranny as that is leaking. I hope they make those too. Thanks for all of you help. It was fun to get her out on the road for the first time. I am looking forward to driving her all this summer.

For the seals is this transmission a standard or overdrive?
  • If you plan on doing a clutch job, you must do it completely. Everything new or you will be asking for trouble. Do it once and do it right, as it will be a pain in the --- to do it over. Walt.

The car has the overdrive in it.

I don't know if I want to tackle this kind of project. I am thinking about buying everything that would be needed and then have someone install it for me. I would rather have it done right the first time.

Thanks. I live in Northeast Ohio. What hours can I call you between? I am talking to a guy to see if he wants to install the clutch for me.

I am assuming you have a single lever transmission. The oil seals are as follows.

Front seal is NAPA 13421 or National 473435.

Rear seal is NAPA 15620 or National 8160S.

Thanks for your help. As for the single lever transmission, what would the other choice be and how do I know which one I have? And the rear seal, is that for between the tranny and the overdrive?

For your transmission choices, the other choice is a Borg Warner two lever transmission which is not stock in a '51. A single lever transmission has one shift lever and rod and a cable to operate it. The rear seal is for drive shaft yoke. There is no seal between the transmission and the overdrive.
