 I finally found a link to the 2nd "un-officially" released Cars teaser that shows Doc Hudson!

So here for the first time on the whole of the internet you can see pictures captured from the bootlegged movie of Doc Hudson! Enjoy! :D

You will need quicktime installed to view the movie from this link - and it is extremely slow and maybe risky?

  • Dan... you da man!
  • Dan, I tried the link but it said I needed to download quicktime essentials file but it was corrupted. I get audio but no video. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

You'll have to download and install a quicktime viewer plugin to view that file. Its an apple product.

When it's "officially" released I'm sure they'll make it Windows Media compatible.

  • Tried to send you a pm but says your full (they didn't say what of! :-)) Anyway here is 49 C8 for sale on eBay if you haven't seen it yet.

  • Nice! I've been eagerly awaiting this trailer.

Looks good. Seems like the Pixar guys have done their research.

    Jay,

You will need QuickTime to view the trailer. You can download it for both Windows and Mac platforms from Apple's website:

    http://www.apple.com/quicktime

It works for me with QuickTime 7. I don't know if it works with earlier versions.

Also, if you have problems with the QuickTime web browser plug-in, you can try downloading the trailer to hard drive, and then use the stand-alone viewer.

    Dan,

I wouldn't be so sure about a Windows Media version being forthcoming. Steve Jobs is the CEO of both Apple and Pixar, so the trailer will likely be hosted at Apple's big trailers page. And those trailers are QuickTime only.
  • Thanks guys, I'll try to download quicktime tomorrow.

    Jay
  • I can't wait to see the movie. Looks like "mater" might be the star of the show! Yee-Haw!
  • Dan, you ARE 'da man! That's great. Just viewed the trailer and can't wait! Makes you wonder: If Doc ends up being a real liked character if people who have never heard of Hudsons will all of a sudden want one. If Pixar/Disney stays on their current track record, this will be another smash hit.

I just noticed in the pictures that Doc is missing his fender skirts.

I wonder if this was homage to the racers of old who didn't run them - or if the "donor" vehicle used for the images didn't have them?

I want Disney to hire me to build them a Doc Hudson to take on tour for promoting the movie!

  • Dan-

I also read in their first promo release, that Doc was a '51 Hornet CONV. The pictures don't look like a 'vert to me. Also, no bumper guards, either, so your estimation to the "racers of old" is probably right.

Yup. Now might be the best time to purchase a Hornet coupe, before the prices go out of reach (and they're already pricey as it is).

Not that there's anything wrong with my '53 sedan! I still prefer the long sloping back end. But ever since I've become active on these discussion boards, the coupes have started to grow on me a little.

A couple of comments about Doc Hudson.

It's great that they chose the 1951 model. That was the year that Twin-H was introduced. It'd be pretty sweet if Doc's hood popped and we saw those big 'ol red barrels on the carbs.

On the other hand, 7-X was introduced in '52, so if they wanted to emphasize Doc's racing history, a '52 or '53 model would be better.

Regardless, I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie. I'd like nothing better than to hear people calling out "Doc Hudson!" when I'm driving my Hornet around town.

Aw...come on guys - Do you really think a CGI animated movie will drive prices of Hudson Coupes up - especially since the movie is more focused on Nascar? I mean if thats your only reasoning then prices of Tow Trucks and Nascars will be going up as well

Of course the movie will expose many young people and their parents to Hudsons which may kindle some additional interest in coming years but this wouldn't have a detrimental lasting effect on pricing.

I wasn't into Hudsons until a year ago but did movies like "Porky's" or "Driving Miss Daisy" drive prices up and if they did was is sustained?

Maybe if we were talking about a real life or semi-fictional "Top Gun/Days of Thunder" style movie of early Hudson Racing starring [insert Hollywood Hunk and Babe here!] where it showed Hornets KICKING ASS all over everyone - THEN I could see prices taking a jump in response.

I think the biggest price wars will be all of us Hudsonites out there trying to out buy-bid-sell our kids for "Doc Hudson" toys and merchandise to add to our Hudson Swag collections! :D

Dan, good points but I bet you don't have kids!.... if this movie is released nationwide and a "hit" then I think there would be good price movement. Can you imagine all the merchandising on toys that would happen if this movie is a hit? It would HAVE to positively influence prices. In the big picture, there are very, very few Hornet Coupes (or even sedans) available forsale or otherwise. Also, I would not call any price increases on Hudsons detrimental. Some would rather Hudsons stay off the car collecting horizon so that they can still afford them. The cars can still be "affordable" but if they want cheap, inexpensive cars then they should collect Gremlins or Pacers instead (see earlier post). Hudsons were too special for their values to be held down by anyone. Regardless, I would hope that everyone would want to see national attention on Hudsons. Niels
  • Price increases on Hudsons won't be detrimental. It will just mean that new Hudson buyers will be richer, well schooled, and of a higher class than what we have to be now.
  • Think about it. Who went to see Driving Miss Daisy? I mean really. This movie is going to get a zilliion young kids with their young parental units who have cash. Kids who never heard of Hudson (or their parents for that matter) will now know what a Hudson is. Great for Hudson and the movie loosk fun too.
  • In the Rob reiner film (STAND BY ME) When the boys are walking in town you'll see a hornet coupe in the window reflection. It's pretty quick. Not much hudson advertising on that one.

I think the real payoff will be picking up the grandchildren after the movie... in my '51 Hornet, of course. :)
  • Yep, I hope to take the kids to see the movie in a Black '49 Super Six coupe. Now that would be neat (maybe more for me than the kids!).

    Mark
  • I understand they won't be able to show under the hood of "Doc Hudson". Seems the motor kept breaking-down, and was getting the production schedule behind. They installed a Chevy 350, and not only got the production schedule back on track, they were able to finish ahead of schedule, because they were able to film the racing segments twice as fast!

As "Larry The Cable Guy" would say," Lord, please forgive me for that one"!
  • New Trailer!!!

And a high definition version, too!

Some very good shots of Doc Hudson in action here.

Man, I am getting majorly psyched for this movie.
  • Looks like I'll have to wait for the movie. None of that will download.
  • Doc Hudson is running without skirts because he is an old NASCAR racer with a mysterious past. I like the scene where he is in the curve high on the bank of the track. Just like a real Hudson would. Gonna be a nice movie for us Hudnuts. We will all be saying what other cars I only saw the 51 Hornet. From the exhaust tone it sounds to me like the Hornet is running 7X...... :D

You need to download the QuickTime 7.0 viewer - use either link and click in the download tab - the viewer is free.

You will have to install and reboot to enable to viewer (during install you may want to uncheck the options to have iTunes be your default music/video player)

Here's a sampling from the Hi-Def movie - although downsized a bit to make it more friendly

That was the problem; if you see a broken "Q" it means you need to download the latest edition of Quicktime, which takes maybe 2-3 minutes if you have DSL as I do. Go here to download
  • Thanks for posting the pics, Dan.

I was thinking of making some screen-caps myself, but figured that you'd eventually be along to post some. :D
  • I can't wait till this comes out on DVD. Our Family Christmas present is a 50in Plasma Tv, with Surround Sound!
  • Thanks for the posts, Dan. They look great. Sure can't wait to see this on the big screen.

Traditionally Hudsons have kept behind in value of Big 3 classic/antique cars. I say there's room for everyone in the world of Hudsoning but I'd sure hate to see it get restricted to only a wealthy or elite few like people who collect Auburns Cords and Dusenbergs. Besides people like that often do not work on their own cars and we would thereby loose all the technically minded people. I know the old car hobby is not cheap anyway. But everything is relative.

Regardless I can't wait to see this movie....the exposure of a car that history has often chosen not to mention is welcomed. Gotta root for the underdog. LOL

As posted earlier, I would bet a paycheck that this movie will increase general awareness. As to actual values, it certainly won't hurt them. The big three cars have a mainstream following, thus demand and the edge on values.

The other issue that has been discussed heavily on this forum is the older HET Hudson owner and values. I have only been a member for a year but I have been to Reno and followed Hudsons for awhile. I would say the average age of the Hudsonites I saw in Reno were in their 60's. I am 48 years old and I was probably one of the youngest. I'm not bashing the age maturity of the club but they had better start AVIDLY recruiting younger members. Checkout the obituary section of our monthly HET newsletter if you are in doubt.

To the credit of some of the local chapters, they are participating in multi-make car shows. I know the So. Cal chapter is partipating in a large show in April 06 and they are even going to pay each members $10.00 registration fee. I think that is going the extra mile and what it takes to get people out. Atleast it is thinking out of the box. On the same subject of exposure, the Hot Rod, modified Hudson crowd is indeed younger and more prone to show their cars to a younger more diverse group. Good for them for that is one of the things we need. Niels

Wow, I must have been feeling ornery that day! Personally, I'm not rich, well schooled, and certainly not high class.

Seriously, Niels brings up an interesting point about the average age of a Hudson owner. Being that this is the internet, do we have a younger following here on the forum, or is it the same demographic as the HET club? I recently turned 34, how many of us here are in our 30's or younger? Or how about like Niels, younger than 50?
