Waterpump rebuilt kits

Where can a fellow get a rebuild kit for a stepdown waterpump? My shaft seal is completely shot. Or does anyone have a non-leaking one for cheap?
Oh, any tips for getting the retaining pin/wire out? I could not get it to budge when I had the pump off last.

Thanks for the contact Walt, I've read good things about Dave on this forum.
Still, looking through the service manual it's a pretty straight forward job. Just need to watch how you press everything apart/together and the holding fixture is easy enough to make. Hell, I've put pulled apart and reassembled more complex things.
Also, at this point in time, I don't have the luxury of paying someone for what I can do myself easily enough.0 -
The Hudson waterpump shaft and double bearing assembly is a standard item used in many different automotive and non-automotive waterpump applications over the years, is available from most bearing stores and is not expensive. From memory its a 5/8" shaft x 30mm or 32mm OD bearing, the shaft will be over long and each end will need to be trimmed.
For the seal use a 5/8" pool pump seal and some ingenuity and you will have it done.
As to getting the wire clip out, it either is rusted in, the usual penetrating oils etc will help there, or the bearing has moved slightly in its housing and is pressing hard on the clip, gently tapping the shaft back and forth will fix that.0 -

While still living, Bernie Siegfried was known to provide hands on technical seminars. For those who had the opportunity to participate in those events, you will remember, Bernie carried around a water pump, fuel pump and carburetor to show those who were willing to listen and participate how to rebuild each of these items. I remember vividly my first opportunity to disassemble a Hudson Stepdown water pump was after Bernie had rebuilt and the very same pump. His admonition was the simplicity of the accessory pieces Hudson assembled to support their motors made them ideal candidates for a mechanically inclined owner ‘s overhaul. I know from this experience, that the real finesse in pump overhaul was assuring the packing or seal was properly installed. Access to a press or possibly a wide mouth vise is the major tool required. Good Luck ... with the bearing and seal advise given... coupled with the manual you should be able to over haul your pump.0

To install the seal kit is the problem, for if 10 thousands of an inch out of line, there goes the bakelight piece. It has 4 ears and must line up the the 4 cut outs and the seal set against this and the housing, and the housing if rusted, must be machined and there is where buying one from Dave will save you a bundle.
