Kelsey Hayes Wheels background help
Just curious about the background of the wire-spoke Kelsey Hayes wheels on stepdowns. Where these upgrades from the factory? If so what years/models? Or were they always aftermarket wheels? Whould it be wrong to put them on a 49' coupe, as I really like the look.
Thanks,
Bryan

Wheel you have pictured is correct wheel, but it is not made by Kelsey Hayes, but by Motor Wheel Company. I do not believe they were correct fatory wheel until 1954, but a lot of earlier stepdown owners use them. Factory option was the full wheel hubcap like shown here.
I do agree that Motor Wheels do look sharp. I had them on our 1951 Hornet convertible for 16 years.
