My father has long told stories of the 1949 Hudson he used to own. My father is dying and I want to arrange a ride around the countryside of Brownstown, IN, Jackson county. Brownstown is about 50 miles north of Lousiville, KY and about 60 miles south of Indianapolis, IN. I would gladly pay all expenses of the owner/driver that wishes to be part of this exercise. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    My understanding is that one of our fine Hudsonites in Indiana has agreed to help this person out, and has already telephoned him. Perhaps we'll have more information about this in the near future.

    Follow up,
    Mr. Nowling went for a Hudson ride on April 6th, 2011. His son Michael had told him that he would be coming in for a visit that afternoon. He didn't know that we would be coming in a Hudson.
    He was very pleased at his son for making this happen.

    Mr. Nowling (Red) had been in the Air Force from the beginning of the Korean War until the end of the Vietnam war. He was an instructor in Munitions and I believe could still teach his trade today if given the chance. Stories during our hour and a half ride went back and forth between traveling from Indiana to Texas in his Hudson and his knowledge of fire arms.

    His first and favorite Hudson was a 49 Super 6 three passenger coupe. He had purchased it used and had told the salesman he wouldn't buy the car without first finding out if it would run 100 MPH. He went for his test drive and came back to pay the man. It had 11,000 miles on it when he made his deal. It then made many trips between Indiana, Texas, and Mexico without ever failing him.
    I asked him how fast he took it on his test drive. "It was just under 110 when he let off the gas" was his response.

    He owned more Hudsons after that, but none were ever as good as his 49.

    After riding through many of his favorite country roads Mr. Nowling was ready to head for home. He did ask though if I would leave my Hudson there so he could do this again tomorrow. I told him I'd be happy to come back and do it again later if he'd like. His son said he should have plenty to talk about now to all his friends.

    Wow, that's quite a story. You deserve a great deal of thanks for having taken the time to give this fellow a memorable afternoon. I hope you'll pass this along to the WTN, it's a tale that needs to be shared with the H-E-T. Possibly it will inspire others to do the same.
