  • Just get engine enamel silver and paint. Will last as long as you own the car. Walt.

Krylon dull aluminum is very close to the original color.

"Dull aluminum"? So was it not shiny then? Like a semi'gloss or flat?

Stepdown rocker panels '48-53 (except Jet) were ALL painted Argent Silver. Go to your local paint supplier and get an Argent road wheel paint used by numerous manufacturers for that same cause. Argent has been used in the US auto industry since at least the early '30s. The '32-33-34-35 Terraplane grille inserts are all Argent for example. It is not a true high gloss paint, but it is certainly not "dull".

Used to be able to get argent in 16 oz. spray cans at Ford dealers parts counters 30 yrs ago, don't know if you still can. Dull aluminum is a gloss or semi gloss color it comes off like aluminum paint instead of a wanna be chrome.

NAPA has large 20 oz cans of Argent spray paint that I have been using for 25 years.

Wo! I didn't think it would last that long in a rattle can without pluggin up the nozzle.

I think "argent" is the French word for silver..I'm sure our french speaking friends will correct me if I'm wrong.

Note: the very back of rocker extension should be painted body color.

This ois how I painted my extensions. Don't know if it's correct, but looks good with all the stainless in place.

Super Dave's illustration is correct for cars from 1948 thru 1951. Beginning in 1952, the rear panel was all silver as above on the Wasp
