Restoration of our 52 Hornet

This rust free Hornet was purchased new by my wife's family from an uncle who sold Hudson's in Goodland, Kansas. When I first started to work on it a few years ago my intent was just to get it running. As you can see I wasn't content with that goal. So, beginning just over a year ago every part of the car was dismantled, cleaned, painted, replated and where necessary replaced. This has been a huge challenge, but a lot of fun. Presently we are working on the upholstery and applying the exterior trim. My wife thought that this was a hopeless project, but as the car began to look better and run well even she is getting excited about seeing it completed. The body is Toro Red and the top is a cream color.

Heading for Oklahoma in July.

    Great job- it looks tremendous!

And the photo montage is especially cool starting with the lady and car "back in the day", and same car (different lady- what relation to the other lady?) nearly 60 years later.
  • It is great seeing this come together in person. My Grandmother is in the first picture and my mother is in the other. This was the first car I ever drove a distance... Grandpa let me drive it in a parade when I was 14-15 and I was hooked ever since. This has always been my favorite car, ever since I have kept track of such things.

Very privileged to have this car still in the family and I am looking forward to driving it again. It has easily been 10 years since I drove it. The original engine had severe problems so this is a different engine. This has been a great learning experience for all of us (mostly my Dad who has done the majority of the work) and will give us much needed knowledge if we tackle another project.

"If we tackle another project"? I bet you are hooked and this won't be your last Hudson project..

You know the consequences of this affliction very well  As you suspect, we have a couple of other Hudson's waiting patiently for attention. :)
